Okay, I am sympathetic to the general vibe on ESB and I feel it myself. But I want to pose a hypothetical question. You may or may not watch the DLH/Mayweather rematch, you may or may not drag your girlfriend down to the local sportsbar (with the promise of doing whatever she wants to do for the next four weeks), better yet, you are so sickened by the fight you read up on it the next day and there it is in big letters, "De La Hoya ko's Mayweather!" What would the aftermath be of such an event on the boxing scene. Like I said, this is hypothetical, but anything can happen and we've all been shocked before while watching the sweet science. Will the boxing world be turned upside down?
Me personally feel that Oscar is in the driving seat for this and the previous fight. Purely on the evidence provided I still cant believe that Oscar didnt anchor himself behind his jab and pragmatically work Floyd with conservitive, tight openings. I still find it difficult to understand why a fighter with Oscar's experiance didnt see something that Hopkins knew from round 3.
I would have to pick Mayweather to win but a De La Hoya win is not imposible. The first fight was a split decision. I think it would easly be the bigest win of De La Hoya's carrer and may place him in the top 10 ATG P4P. I would hink there would be a third fight between them. Mayweather's legacy would be hurt but I think he could recover from such a loss.
It could happen. I would rate its probability at about 20% with another 20% for him winning by UD. Floyd has about a 9 % chance of a KO with a 50% chance of winning by UD. I've left 1 % for a draw. The boxing world would be surprised, but not turned upside down. Floyd would be kicking himself for choosing $$$ over legacy and having missed beating Cotto and retiring at his peak. Oscar could go on to try his luck against Winky for more big $$$ ( 50% chance) and finish up on May 1, 2009 against Mayweather in the rubber match. Floyd, like many before him, if he didn't crumble, would actually be a better fighter, having tasted and dealt with defeat. But the odds are against any of it happening.
You speak truth, my brother. I think Floyd would kick himself and would probably retire for the length of a year and come back a stronger more aggresive fighter for another title bout. I think DLH would probably fight Cotto next and then take on Tito as his last fight, as Tito will be watching the developments. Like I stated, these are all big "ifs". The thing with DLH is that it is not about the ability but about the drive.
i think DLH has what it takes to beat floyd but he lacked the will last time ... but i do think he has gotten it back... he moved his camp back to big bear to be there in isolation ... hes wanting a tunes up fight an hes going back with mayweather sr....compared to when he fought like once a year .. trained at home then went out to plan partys for his wifes b day an getting a whole new game plan with a new trainer... an just unfocused.... i think hes gonna commit himself for the next year an i think hell beat mayweather
I would personally be shocked :yikes . I think it would most definitely rock the message board and there would be some blood spilled on ESB. The boards would surely be out of control for a while. Presscott would probably commit suicide :yep
Yes, when I posed the question and the effects afterward of a hypothetical win I worried for the guy. Hey, wasn't he supposed to have a new DLH avatar off a bet he lost? I've seen his comments around but without the avatar.
You know I heard something about that about a week or two ago, but im not sure what the deal is. Maybe its "if" he loses and it hasn't went through yet. Bewareofdogs avatar was supposed to be Presscotts avatar if he loses I thought....im not sure though
He had a very deluded prediction for Roy-Tito, so I wouldn't be surprised if he had some kind of avatar bet on that one.
'fraid so. just one of his many predictions on the topic: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1048422#post1048422
