Louis used the same manoevre against Mauriello a couple of times if i recall.There are a couple of stills of him using his strength to push Mauriello and his gloves away before some vicious follow up shots
I think it's quite obvious that Louis just didn't fight regularly enough. 26 title defenses in the space of 8½ years is pathetic frankly. He should have crammed at least 45 defences in during that time. Maybe he shouldn't have cowardly joined the Army aswell, he could have spent '43 and '45 notching up another 17 title defenses against the likes of JD Turner, Baksi and Woodcock.
I thought about that one as well. What a shot, it sounded like a shotgun blast as it landed on Holmes, who is a durable ****er and way too proud to go down without standing his ground. Wlad also did it against several opponents.
