I would have loved to see Ali finish off Shavers in the final round. He had him out on his feet in the last few seconds.

If Duran stopped Barkley that would have been some result. There was nothing in the fight, either man could have got the decision.

Yeah, I remember Tyrell's interview with KO magazine in 1987 was the first time I read someone saying directly that Tyson was "abusive towards women".

Of course this was a few months after Tyson's first reported incident (since he became famous) involving hitting an attendant in a car park who apparently objected to his groping of a young lady - a story that wasn't covered even in that much detail, and no one really dwelled upon, and Jim Jacobs and Bill Cayton paid to go away.

Generally Tyson was still be portrayed by the media as a respectful, soft-spoken gentleman.
(His "nose bone/brain" quote about Jesse Ferguson was well-reported, of course, but portrayed as a misguided quote from a teenager, perhaps fairly - although Tyson had actually heard it from Cus ! - and besides, actually being abusive to women was a different thing entirely.)

Biggs was the first fighter to publicly call BS on that. Not that he wanted to make a big deal of it.

Tyson kind of proved the point when he gleefully said Biggs made "woman like noises" in pain, kind of confirming how much he enjoyed hurting females.

Stop it with your lies... All these tales are made up to hurt TGOAT's reputation. Mikey was wonderful with women, he never did anything to Cus's missus. Mike never touched no women in his life. I hate you!!:lol:

For all that tho.. Ty never bad mouthed Mike as a fighter. His (misguided) pre fight confidence came from the fact that they went 2 rounds in the pre Olympic camp before the box offs for team places..Ty handled Mike with comfort. Ty was 23 though and a seasoned amateur world champion whereas Mike was only 18.
Ty said in a press conference before their world title fight. "I know Mike in a way you guys don't, so i'm not seeing this monster that you see"....Ty was remembering when he sparred those rounds 3 and a half years earlier. .....
After the fight he admitted Tyson surprised him ... with his speed (" His speed was his power, i knew he could hit, but i didn't know he was so damn quick, i couldn't get him off me".
I've always found Biggs' to be genuine in what he says.

Would that victory cement Foreman as the GOAT?

    Thanks. Didn't know that.

I can just imagine when the sisters decided to introduce their two boyfriends to each other. That awkward moment.

Apparantly Ty was dating this new girlfriend, he went to pick her up, her sister was with her and she said her date was about to arrive and that he was a famous boxer...minutes later Mike showed up.!
Dont think either girl was that into boxing....its a tale that Tyrell has told many times... Tyson mentions it somewhere also...it was only a couple of months after their fight.
My favourite Biggs. Story....goes like this...Ty was living in Newport Beach , he got fitted for a new suit in a top notch shop in L.A he goes to pick it up and the young assistant says "there's another guy chose this same suit,he'll be along shortly to pick it up...he's a boxer also, he's won the title a few times" Biggs was thinking "who the hell can this be ?"...so he hung around to find out...a short while later, in walked Sylvester Stallone to pick up his suit !

It would have been just what the doctor ordered, as far as I'm concerned.

Jun Suk Hwang flattening Donald Curry in their 1983 fight, for the ramifications it could have brought.
