A lennox Lewis return?

from what I've gathered its all just speculation at this point. Ever since the end of their first fight, I've wished to see a rematch. Its the biggest hw fight out there that needs to be made.

 

I hope not.

 

At his age and time of inactivity, I feel Lennox would be foolish to do so.

Then again, if Vitali can do it...

Lewis is toying with the idea, but the end of the day he's too smart to come back after such a long layoff.

Listen, 30 years from now, Lewis and Vitali will be spoken of as they were in different leagues, Lewis wouldn't come back to risk that, for any money.

Lewis is perhaps the smartest heavyweight in the history of boxing.

 

Only a week ago during the Calzaghe/Jones fight Lewis was in attendance and looked NOTHING close to being in shape, he's retired and WON'T come back, Lewis is too smart for that. He knew it was better to hang it back then and admitted his desire was long gone anyway, why the hell would it come back now?, to risk his status?, doubtful.

However, Vitali seems to claim Lewis hinted at a come back or COULD be making it up to put some sort of pressure on Lewis to return.

I can confirm it's not true. Lewis has just replied on his Myspace to me and said it's false.

 

Vitali mentioned in the post Haye fight interview that he understood Lennox is back in the gym considering a return. Vitali, after his long lay off, said he had shown Lennox the way.

Obviously, as its been said many times before, Lennox has no real reason to come back; as he already has a great legacy, a lot of money, and a win over Vitali on the resume.

There are only two slight possibilities why Lennox would return; he has pissed away his money (very unlikely given that he is a level headed guy + working for HBO?) or that his ego has got the better of him.

If Lennox genuinely feels that he is physically and mentally able to come back at his age and after all this time, then more credit to him. I personally though, hope he stays retired, but should he return, I will back him all the way.

 

Lewis has got nothing to loose, boxing fans are so cynical if he gets a chance to fight klitscho everyone will say he lost to an old man, if he get $15 million or how much heavy weights get he should fight, because he doesnt have anything to loose.

The legacy Lennox Lewis is etched in stone, he is one of the top 3 if not the greatest HWT fighting machine there ever was. If he does decide to return, a win or a loss would do nothing to change that.

Returning and losing - and passing the torch to Vitali as the new king, would actually gain Lewis more respect in a way. As well as a touch of sympathy. Like Jack Dempsey said decades after his losses to Tunney, to his biographer Roger Kahn (A Flame of Pure Fire), "I want you to get to the people - losing was the making of me."

Think about it. Sometimes when you win, you lose. And when you lose you win.
