It's annoying when people call fighter's B level or C level and just completely generalize a fighter and everything they are with ******ed grading like that. It all started when Mayweather said: On Gatti "Hes a C+ fighter and they put him in there against C- fighters." http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Talk:Floyd_Mayweather,_Jr. Fighters have numerous qualities that match up well or poorly against different fighters with their own qualities. There is much more to a fighter then just these arbitrary tiers.
Please stop whining. It's arbitrary, yes, but so is all language. If we mean to communicate we must be able to relate ideas to each other. If someone has never seen a particular boxer in action, you can summarize their ability with simple expressions like grades. It's up to whoever is listening to you to decide whether they value your opinion enough to accept your grading on its face. They are free not to.
IntentionalButt said it best, "PLEASE STOP WHINING". LOL! Yet another stupid ass thread by a guy who is infamous for making them.
It is nice to have some way to generalize boxers. Sure, generalizing may not always be watertight or give away the full picture, but it will give you some idea who they are.
...and I love Gatti, but in the grand scheme C+ isn't horribly unfair. I might put him a bit higher myself, but don't find C+ unreasonable. If you consider that C is average, that still puts him in the positive and isn't really an insult unless you're very picky and dismissive of anyone not in the rarefied elite category.
I'm not a fan of Rios, but the chin/power/heart elevate him to at least somewhere in the B range, IMO. Probably B-. Abril and Alvarado are both roughly B+, and both dialed his number. (Abril more easily than Alvarado, but I think Alvarado is better h2h overall than Abril - styles make fights...)
:think I dont know i would rate Abril B level and he totally outclassed(in skill department) Rios, can not rate him more than C+ when he wasnt able to win more than 3 rounds(if that) agains Abril, so C+ stands:thumbsup
I certainly don't think highly of Abril either and some on here do overrate him...I saw him legitimately beaten in person, close but clear by Hank Lundy, who has some great talent but some really detrimental intangibles placing him overall B/B+ for me (with the potential to have been A- purely on natural giftedness)...so Abril is somewhere around a B flat. Rios he schooled but it was more because he is a horrible style for Rios than being a much higher overall class. I think Lundy B+, Abril B, Rios B- seems about right but I'm not married to it. And yes I said Alvarado was B+ himself and Rios obviously did much better against him than against Richar Abril who I rate lower than Mike - but again, styles. .:thumbsup
