After the Johnson fight Jeffries was asked on the train home if he would have beaten Johnson had he been prime.Bohun Lynch posed the question for the London Times.Jeffries replied I would never have beaten him I couldn't have reached him in a thousand years.Posters have sensibly wanted confirmation of this quote .In the section under Jeffries record on Box Rec, a newspaper source is given ,the Nashuah Telegraph July 8th 1910,ie 4 days after the fight.I'm unable to post it here but the link is there. Its crystal clear what Jeffries told the press, He said if he was younger he would have won, and he would have rather lost to three white fighters than one black fighter. There's a full transcript here and in context that has been posted it before. Its deaitled This train ride quote is fantasy, whereas the transcript? There is none, just Lynch saying whatever he wishes. If one looks hard enough there are plenty of fake quote on the web. Believe what you wish, Johnson beat a washed up fat old man who had been out of the ring for 6 years.
