This is hard to explain but i want to see if its possible. I take i fighter and each poster after puts up a fighter who is there double in the next era. Example the jefferies era, Johnson, Dempsey, Marciano, Ali I would like to start off with Joe Choynski. A fighter who had several fights with the Champ before or during their reign but was never up to scratch to win the title. Thanks Classic:good

Well the biggest of the next era would probably have been. Jess Willard. then Primo Carnera. after that perhaps Buddy Baer.
Gus Ruhlin and Tom Sharkey were the best of the nearly men during Choynski's time imo. In the era of Johnson Fireman Jim Flynn got a couple of title shots but came up short both times. Gunboat Smith, Battleing levinsky and Firpo were there abouts during Dempsey's time. There are also the guys held back by the colour line but they are different as one of them would probably have won the title. Next possibly Buddy Baer. After that maybe Tommy Farr and Billy Conn (not really the same as a top class Lightheavy champ). Looking through the heavyweight division always seems to highlight the lack of depth of talent. From the golden era through to Ali top class fighters that were right up there but didn't make it are thin on the ground. Then its the usual names Jerry Quarry, Ron Lyle, Earnie Shavers, Jimmy Young, Gerry Cooney etc etc etc............
