If someone could list how much he earned from his fights it would be very intresting.

    Lewis $30 million
    Spinks $25 million

These are the only ones i know.

I had many of them written down at home. I'll have a look when I'm back.

I seem to remember he got an astounding $35m for fighting Seldon.
At least, that's before 'DK Tax'...

    Here's most of the big-name purses :

    Berbick $1.5m
    Smith $2m
    Thomas $2.5m
    Tucker $2.5m
    Biggs $2.5m
    Holmes $5m
    Tubbs $10m
    M Spinks $20m+
    Bruno I $7-8m
    C Williams $4m
    Tillman $2m
    Stewart $3m
    Ruddock I $6m
    McNeeley $25m
    Mathis Jr $10m
    Bruno II $30m
    Seldon $30m
    Holyfield I $30m
    Holyfield II $30m
    Botha $10m
    Norris $8.7m
    Francis $8-12m
    Savarese $8m
    Golota $10m
    Nielsen $5m
Lewis $17.5m + a cut of the PPV sales (grossed $103m)
    Etienne $5m
    D Williams $8m
    McBride $5m

Tyson might also have gotten a cut of the PPV sales from other fights, it's just the Lewis one that is well-known about.

Bear in mind, though, that Don King always takes a hefty chunk from his fighter's purses so it's unlikely Mike saw 100% of these amounts. By the last few years of his career, the post-King years, it's even worse because Tyson was having to pay off debts. For example, of the $8m purse vs Danny Williams in 2004, Mike only received $2m himself after those deductions.

amazing the money that he made, and he still wound up owing. 25 million for fighting McNeely? That is an easy nights work.

Ever figure his earnings out into hourly pay? It's mind-boggling.

there is at least 300 million there! I have heard that figure before. I know that much of that he did not see, but he also cheated himself out of many endorsement contracts along the way, which would have brought in huge amounts of earnings themselves.

I think a heavyweight who could capture the publics imagination and keeps himself out of trouble, is marketable, made good investments, etc. could make close to a billion dollars these days if they held the title (or won it back on a money making rematch) for the better part of a decade.

I remember reading an article dealing with the top earners in sports for 1988.

Tyson was by far the biggest earner, with $82 million.
The next highest, Michael Jordan, earned $33 million.

    Crazy money.

Amazing how he wasted so much of that.

Supposedly Tyson would go to places like jewlery/watch shops, and drop hundreds of thousands of dollars for watches for people he barely knew, as gifts.

Trying to buy friends, I guess. Either that or he's just nice like that.

Explains where the money went the past 20 some odd years, anyway.

Got to love getting paid 20 plus millions dollars for 90 seconds work against Spinks, too.

    When he was, what, 20?

You've got to be incredibly thick to waste that kind of money away. :D
