Cheers for that, I didn't have that one. Anyone know what he made for the Ruddock rematch? And what Razor made too, if you know it...
I understand where your coming from with that comment, but no doubt Tyson was robbed to the point of blindness by guys such as King Horne & Holloway. I also think, because Tyson came from nothing, then acquired so much money, he felt it would never end. Like everything, there comes a time when things do come to an end & are no more. During his three year incarceration from 1992-95, King & his cronies wasted all of Mike's money. He was virtually bankrupt & it was only that it was Mike Tyson (so much interest in him at the time) that he was able to a lot of money again quickly. If he would have stayed with Cayton & Rooney it's most likely that Mike would now have a greater deal more to show for his boxing career. During the Beyond the Glory documentry, Mike solicitor who was representing him in his lawsuit against King, shows a document which instructs Mike Tyson's bank account to put $43,000,000 into Don King's bank account, but Tyson's signature is forged!
I remember him buying his friend Rory a White Bentley for a birthday, Rory didn't like the shade of colour or the Interchangable CD player or something minor , so Mike just bought a second car and gave him both.. That was in 1997....
I forget which biography of him it was I read, but it tells the story of him fighting at one of Trumps places in Atlantic City, and Trump wrote him a check for something like 2 million as an advance, gave the check directly to Tyson and Tyson actually lost it. He had to go back to Trump and have him stop payment/issue a new check. Sure, he was surrounded by crooks, but he was also pretty damn careless.
Most people would've just bought Rory a tin of paint... No doubt certain individuals took advantage of Tyson, that 'big posse' mentality in particular is an excellent way to blow millions of dollars quickly, but he also had a 'spend spend spend' attitude. Give a poor kid that much money so soon and he's almost bound to, though. Mike really could've done with someone he trusted utterly that could handle his finances, that would be able to stand up to him and say no when needed. Then again, Mike probably would've ignored them anyway...
i would have buried the money or trusted a relation with a mil. Those tax men will always get you in the end
