The only one I can think of is the man in my avatar, Gunnar Bärlund. He was tough but cut easy.

    Steve,
I want your Greb book to tell me what ever happened so Harry's Girlfriend Sally Bronis.
Their scandal was front page NYC tabloid news. Really classic stuff.
It was the most uncrackable portion of Harrys life imho.

"Anyone who tackles history or biography must be prepared to read old newspapers by the thousand. You go through them, day after day, looking down bug-eyed from your high perch in the future, watching a story build up - the inaccuracies, the downright lies, the deliberate propagandist blandishment of the reader. You see the lies consolidate, or fall to pieces in the light of your hindsight."

This is a great quote because what Niland is saying is that you cant just take one source to support your argument. You have to look at a wide range to get a clear picture check and cross check against other sources to get a clear picture of whats happening on the ground at that time. Thats exactly what Im doing and what those adhere to the Darcy mythology reject. The ozzies assume that I went in looking to prove the Darcy myth wrong. Thats incorrect. I went into it like I do everything else, from a fans perspective wanting to get first hand accounts (which I find far more interesting and detailed than any book could possibly be) in so doing I found many many many discrepencies in that finely crafted fairy tale. When I post them here some people who have an emotional investment in Darcy get defensive. Fine. Whatever. I think its plain to see to the rational observers here who sits on what side of the fence and what their motivations are. Maybe some think Im being stubborn but if so its because I havent been shown compelling proof. I cant wait to hear what SLAKKA can find. If Darcy KOd Fulton Id love to hear about it. Thats a great story. If he didnt, or if reporters are on the scene and the two are sparring and it isnt mentioned then you can damn well believe it didnt happen because Darcy KOing Fulton would have a hell of a scoop for anyone there and yet it doesnt get any print until 9 months later when Darcy's travelling buddy sells that story to a newspaper 3000 miles away....

What happened to her after Greb's death? I know a little but to me its not really relevant. Her life with Greb in my opinion is pretty damn relevant, particularly the part that I think you referring to which is somewhat mysterious, although if we are talking about the same thing I think as men we can both guess what that was all about. I'll leave it to the book though.

and niland stated the fulton spar as fact. a better man than you, and one that went to great lengths to discover the truth. he also spoke to people that actually met and knew darcy. something you will never do.

niland is far more respected than any trash you write will be. i know i'll be sending links of your slander on esb to any critic that stoops to read your trash....

[quote=sallywinder;10965095]and when MANY well respected people all know the same truth, then thats what it is.

And when many well respected people all know the same stories and repeat them as truth without having been there or knowing someone who was, MYTHS are born.

Happens every day. You've probably heard plenty of urban myths yourself. Just because people believe them doesn't make them true. Some are utterly false. When everyone drinks the kool aid everyone is going to die, no matter how respected they are.

Darcy knocking out Fulton may be a myth. We don't know for sure. It's going to take a bit of research to prove it. The words of people who weren't there are not good sources to point to.

Think he's too slow and lazy mate and he doesn't use his reach the way he should, certainly has a punchers chance but I don't think he'll land it, maybe though. Povetkin is going backwards if anything and I didn't think he was that special despite being technical sound.

I actually thought Solis was doing a good job of outboxing Vitali until his knee popped out. He could have been great fighter the lazy ****er. Haye does have a shot against Vitali, with Vitali being easier to hit and slower.

I like the look of Mike Perez but that's a pretty low level

My advice is be as objective as you can on the Tunney matches. For example, you should mention the fight Greb officially won had some controversy in it when Greb's head smashed into Tunney's face and nose in round one, make things very hard on Gene for the remaining 14 rounds. It could have been a style thing, where the shorter more aggressive man had an accidental clash of heads, but it deserves to be mentioned as heavily influenced the outcome.

Don't make this a pure love affair like Roger Kahn's Flame of Pure Fire. I prefer to read boxing books that shed light on seldom touched topics, load up on first hand testimonials, and offer rare photographs. Best of luck to you!

I doubt even he will call himself great at this point. People get excited for the wins he has had but Helenius and his management recognize that he still has lot to improve on, for example the things you mentioned (getting lazy and unimaginative in the ring).

I sure hope he will get Povetkin before meeting any of the Klitschko brothers. That way Finland could have its first world champion ever, no matter how "credible" the belt is. Either way I'll be content if he gets a title shot, the only Finnish person to challenge for a title was Olli Mäki some 50 years ago, he was blasted out in 2 rounds by Davey Moore.

Don't worry TGA if any of these boxers ever try to invade Finland your javelin throwers can pick the boxers off from range :yep
