I predicted a KO from Manny. Not because he has more talent, but simply this time because he has a much much better trainer(and sign´s like Glenn McCrory and the Goldenboy saying Ricky would win don´t hurt, they're both idiots). Mayweather is a complete joke, the things he has Ricky working on are a pathetic, it´s like trying to teach a cat how to bark. Ricky didn't look good at all against Paulie, he basically had a crappy face defence in the first round, but caught Paulie and after that Paulie was done. Everything that was shown from Ricky's camp this time around looked to be the same awfull training again. There was absolutely no need to change Ricky and have him working on things he doesn´t have the reflexes do to. The "old" Ricky was a VERY good fighter. Only thing that might have needed slight working on was calming him down a bit and have him hold his gloves up more, THAT´S IT! It saddens be to think that most people will think Rickie wasn't better than this fight. Because I think he was. I would betted on Ricky against Floyd jr. if they would be fighting in this weight class, and if it was in a smaller ring and if the ref would be european(likely to allow more close fighting and wrestling). But he took a bite that was too big against Floyd, so I saw him loosing that before, but again... I didn´t think it was because Ricky's a worse fighter, just smaller and fighting on Floyd jr´s terms. When I heard Ricky sacked Graham I remember thinking how I hoped he hired Roach, but when I read he hired Mayweather sr., I knew he was screwed.
I disagree with the first part of your post, everyone was delighted with Floyd Sr. and while he was probably not the best choice for a guy like Ricky he's 10x of a trainer Graham is. Ricky needed to change something. But the part of your post that I quoted is just ridiculous. Hatton lost to Mayweather because he was totally OUTCLASSED just like he was last night. It's just the British fans/media that blamed the referee/the weight/insert another excuse. There is no way Hatton beats Floyd EVER at any weightclass. To be a great you need to beat fighters on their terms, Pac did that with DLH and Ricky (after all 140 is HIS only and perfect weighclass) so why should Ricky be different in the fight against Floyd? Hatton is just not in the same class as these guys, never was, never will be.
I agree it was a mistake to hire Mayweather. Having said that Hatton would of got beaten who ever he employed because he is done as a fighter, and has been since Mayweather fight and possibly even before that. Hatton should of gone with someone who could fine tune his skills. Mayweather tried too much of an overhaul with him.
Theres no doubt Ricky got outclassed and to blame the referee is foolish (even Ian Darke said "If Hattons dad was refereeing that fight, the outcome wouldnt be much different) but Cortez was very strange in that fight, EVERY time Hatton got within 5 inches of Floyd it was "WOWOWWOW BREAK IT BREAK IT LET HIM GO!!! yet I have never seen Cortez so eager to stop clinching before in his "hundreds of world title fights"
Not that it matters any how many people thought it was a smart move, but there were MANY that thought Floyd was NOT a good choice(even think that dumbass Glenn McCrory thought so), including me. I highly disagree with him being a better trainer than Graham, and certainly think it´s proven in the results. I don´t think Ricky needed to change anything, just a little fine tuning maybe. I don´t think Hatton was seriously outclassed, he was doing OK. But it was a huge ring, Floyd jr. is too big for him, and Ricky wasn´t allowed to fight AT ALL on the inside, and Floyd was allowed to use all sorts of elbow tactics. I´m certainly not saying Ricky's better than Manny or Floyd... but I think he was much better at his best than those performances show. Amen to that. Floyd sr. is just dreadful. p.s. I'm not not purely blaming Cortez for Ricky loosing against Floyd. Floyd's TOO BIG in my opinion for Ricky, but the big rind and the bad ref sure didn't help any either.
You can't blame Sr. for Hatton's loss. Everyone knows that he encourages pure boxing, Hatton knew that before he hired him. if he only needed some fine tuning he shouldn't have hired Sr., it's as simple as that. Yeah yeah the ring was large etc. But when Mayweather fought DLH even more factors favored Oscar. He took Floyd to a weightclass he never fought at, made the ring small if I remember correctly and made up some stupid rules about weight. Guess what, Floyd still beat him and that's what greatness is about. Ricky accepted Floyd's terms and deserves props for that but he couldn't pull it off. And Floyd would **** him up exactly the same in a smaller ring, he was beating Hatton at his own game roughing him up on the inside. Hatton was not swindled out of a win, he was just outclassed.
Don't think hiring Sr. screwed him really, what screwed him is Pacquiao's ability to counter whatever he has. Let me tell you this, even if he hired Roach it will be way too difficult to change him completely. Roach already made the impossible with Pacquiao has he changed him COMPLETELY but that took a LONG time. Hatton has had 46 fights already, Roach might be able to make a few adjustments and nothing more.
I tottally agree with you there, its ok for Hopkins to ruff it up in the inside against Joe.C but not for Hatton and mayweather fight whats that all about.
honestly, pacman and floyd are just better fighters than hatton. you can do what you like to the ring and let them fight at 140 but hatton is a world class fighter who lacks finesse. taking nothing away from him - but he got beat by arguably the two best fighters since roy jones. he got beat and he'd get beat again if he fought them.
Yeah but whats good for the goose is good for the gander, you cant let one fight like that and not the other, O well whoose the next British talent coming through let me think?????????????????????????????? o Tyson Fury.atsch
Ricky is very good @ what he does but that style can't beat everyone. Hatton has a lot of faults which have been exposed numerous times & can only fight one way. He should have hired a good trainer right after he beat Tszyu he would be a much better fighter by now wouldn't have lost the way he did.
hmm says... Ricky looked like the same Ricky we've seen imo... He went back fighting to the same old self and got caught with punches from someone faster than he had fought.
I'm of the opinion that Ricky hasn't lost a step and he'd still be able to plaster the WBU bums he was plastering his entire career back in Europe. **** happens when you're a guppy and you're swimming with sharks. Ain't no trainer in the world that can help a guppy beat a shark and ain't no trainer in the world that can turn a guppy into a shark. That guppy is better off staying the **** outta the ocean and sticking to his own pond if he knows whats good for him cuz the water's too deep out there and you'll be in for more than you bargained for.
Eh not sure, fighters win fights not trainers. Floyd was talking up a pretty good game plan for Hatton to use but Hatton couldn't put it to use.
