I wouldn't be overly critical of him after this fight. Johnson came to survive, and did and has a lot of experience at doing so. Dubois has a lot of improving to do if he's going to reach the top. But at 21 years of age and only 9 fights, you can't expect him to be anywhere near the finished article. Going 10 rounds is a box ticked in his development. Still yet to see how he handles taking a big punch flush on the chin.
Put things in perspective. Yes, he looked like he ran out of ideas and in the end looked predictable, however in comparison to some other guys who fought Johnson recently such as Andy Ruiz and Pulev, Dubois actually did better.
Johnson has been wasted and not competing for a long time. I can barely recall the Fury and Joshua fights now. He is a journeyman that knows his way to dance to a losing decision. No shame in that at his age, but it's dull.
People here are so quick to hate. Yeah we all thought Dubois would knock him out but instead he went the distance and dominated the fight from start to finish...he needed these rounds. Johnson was akward as hell tonight and just came to survive. Dubois done what he had to do and got the win. He is still a young contender who is doing just fine. I am enjoying following his career and look foward to his next fight.
To be honest I think it’s a blessing in disguise that result. I think they were trying to build a KO streak weren’t they. So he was getting matched against relatively poor opponents. Now I’d expect a few more durable ones and he will get much needed rounds in. I’ve always said Gorman picks him apart though. I think Frank avoids that fight for a long time.
I think hearns card quite easily bettered warrens last night, for any insomniacs out there just watch Dubois vs Johnson and caterall vs Davies and you’ll be cured That’s for all you warren arse lickers on here
With respect mate he has a excellent coach in martin, that fight would have done Daniel loads for his development, please remember he’s very young
He's got a good 4 or 5 years to get himself into contention for a title shot. So physically and technically, there will be a improvement somewhere in between. The momentum has been deflated , but it's fixable. Change of training methods, change of training diet. His trainers I assume, would go back to the drawing board, and reconsider these things. Just looking at Joyce, gives me hope of that. I think Dubois will come in bigger and stronger in his next couple of fights. I'm still feeling hyped up about this guy despite his disappointing performance against Johnson. The stamina's there, but he needs to work on settings up his combinations better. Like someone else said, not smother his own work.
It was Michael, not Kirk, who was DQ'd against John Ruiz for the WBA in one of the heavyweight championships all time worst. Great shout though.
