It's astounding you pricks latched onto a single sentence about Bruce Lee to completely disregard talking about Larry ****ing Holmes. My man is still underrated.
Larry Holmes is actually overrated in boxing circles. He really wasn't half as good a boxer as his fans claim.
Larry Holmes spent his entire career taking the past of least resistance. No WBA unification, no mandatory when the fight was too tough, only very dogey wins over the near-great Norton and very good Witherspoon. Holmes is enjoying an upshot in reputation, partially because a lot of current fans didn't have to suffer through his title tenure. But the truth is the truth- he hurt boxing by contributing to title proliferation, and the sport has never been the same since.
Not everyone has to like my posts. When I happen upon one of these gif articles it always seems to be the same case; interesting gifs separated by youtube comment level fight analysis. Just skimming this one: "That is the why of Larry's jab. The how is even more important. Larry Holmes fights with his hands low as a stylistic choice. On the bright side it means the jab comes from underneath an opponents field of vision. As a boxer you generally fight looking at shoulder or eye level on your opponent. Larry's low lead hand means Gerry can't see the jab until it's an inch deep in his nose bone. Note the half step in as he stomps his foot to get maximum power on it. Getting every ounce of his explosive weight" This seems like it was written by a 20 year old who has never been in a gym, never been punched, and frequents r/boxing over this forum. The history and the gifs are cool.
Its written FOR 20 year olds who have never been in the gym, never been punched and doesn't give an actual **** about boxing. That is the person I want to read this. That is who reads this on imgur. Because even if that 20 year old might never become a fighter, he might become a fan. Too many boxing writers are content preaching to the choir. It doesn't matter if the guy with 6000 posts on ESB didn't like my article because homie, it wasn't written for you. Look at it like this, you ever need an example of technique to win an argument on here, Check my imgur profile or hit me up. I got a massive library of thousands of boxing gifs. And if you like history I'm attempting to write a complete history of the Heavyweight championship. I'm 100 single spaced pages deep. @BitPlayerVesti @Senya13 and @GlaukosTheHammer have been helping me research it. If you want to talk technique, I got all ****ing night. The Champ is Here.
It seems like the irony of your first sentence, and your posting your article here, is lost on you. Believe me, I'm happy folks are out there splicing gifs and getting would be casual fans interested in the sport. Don't you think, though, that it would be a strange sight to see Mark Kriegel walk into the Mayweather gym and attempt to offer insights on sparring to an audience that surely knows much more than him? Carry on "Champ". I'll at least check out the gifs if I see another post.
No, he just badly hurt boxing in a manner from which is never recovered, The Larry Holmes era was the era in which boxing stopped being a mainstream sport.
Did you just compare ESB to the Mayweather gym? Gross. I posted it here because it is about boxing. Is this not a forum to discuss? But it is not entirely written with the hardcore fan in mind. I don't need to tell people who know how to fight, how to fight. I don't need to explain technique to those already familiar with it. But a lot of people look at it as mindless violence. I'm trying to change that perception in non-fight fans. So in this terrible analogy you've created, it's like having a brand new, never seen a fight outside high school, corny dude walking into the gym. Two fighters are fighting. The new guy asks a random guy with a bucket to explain it to him. So the guy with the bucket covers the basics. Explains the stuff the new guy needs to know so that he starts looking for it. Get them into the actual SPORT of boxing for what it is. What happens between the fighters. How it all works. That is how you hook new hardcore fans. I might be to old to be a champion (31) but I'll never be too old to hold a bucket. Because fans into the technique like boxing. Not just boxers. That is what separates a casual from a hardcore to me. Some people here know more about certain topics. But from 688BC to 1810AD, I know about as much as anybody on here for boxing history. I'm possibly(?) the most widely read analyst on here. So I'm still waiting. If you wish to take issue with anything that I have pointed out technically. Please do. Perhaps I can clarify my position.
You still don't see the irony of writing a gif article for Mike Tyson highlight video type fans, posting it here, and whining about how people here are "not the target audience". I don't think anyone has an issue with you posting gif articles here, but remind yourself, not me, that this isn't your target audience. If people here aren't into Bruce Lee references or the corny writing style meant to attract folks who actually don't know s*** about boxing, you have to deal with that. May you splice gifs in peace "Champ".
I get it. What you don't get is that you are not only far and away in the minority with that opinion. I tried to be diplomatic, but You seem the be the only one intent on being a dick about it. So... Listen "Mr.-I-posted-6100-things-that-nobody-liked" maybe you aren't the guy to be calling out people for their bad opinions or bad writing. How is it even possible to be that unlikable? I've got half your posts and more than 10x your likes. By those numbers alone I am 5x the presence you'll ever be on here. This is MY home. That's why I just do what I want. You're odd for not being at least into Bruce Lee. God forbid a Boxing fan would actually learn from or about another Martial Art. But no. You'd rather rabble about how Bruce was not martial artist, rather than point out any thing I said that was factually wrong. Because nothing I said was wrong, and you have no real point make you ****ing dummy. I'm always willing to hear out people who don't like my stuff. Because valid points have been raised to me in the past. You hear the points. Grow and learn from it. But there isn't anything to improve on in any of your statements. So before you come back with something to say just remember. You write to kill time. I write to pay bills. You can get this work for free.
