Finally, the voice of reason. Look guys, of course a medicine ball won't give you a six pack but, as dangerousity has already mentioned, it will condition your abdominal muscles to handle trauma in any form.

  2. I have to say Medicine balls do make your abs ready for hitting. Very good for toughening up the abdominal area and one of the 'user friendly' techniques mind you.

As for the hypothetical, you can hit any soft place enough times and it will get tough. Ask a kickboxer about their legs.

I remember seeing oscar lay upside down doing crunches from a bar while having someone hit him inbetween reps so some should consider yourself lucky. :blood

I am a kickboxer. If you are refering to something like kicking a tree to deaden nerves in the shin, thats completely different to having a medicine ball hit off your abdominals. Firstly, the shin has little muscle and is very close to the bone which makes it is an easy area for that type of conditioning. Second, your leg has no internal organs to protect.

I find this forum pretty funny. Guys come on here that actually know what they're talking about, have qualifications in the field and have trained athletes, Scrap for example. They give legit advice on what to do but the guys who just box and have absolutely no idea what the **** they are talking about ignore that advice because they've seen pro boxers doing whatever technique therefor they musy follow. Sad really.

who the hell is Scrap? :think

lol jk. Have known Scrap for a long time and have received some of the best advice ever from him about important stuff when I needed it.

Found this thread a bit funny and myself feeling foolish because in all my training was just the day before this thread started my trainer had me and another guy absolutely pounding each other with the medicine ball in the gut for the first ever. :tired

the best way to condition your body for body shots is lots of body sparing. You will harden up and will take shots easier.

how does a kick boxer condition his thighs?

he receives lots of leg kicks to the thigh same goes with shots to the abs

you dont seem like a kick boxer to me, any kick boxer would know this

There's a difference between taking shots to the body and thighs in sparring and standing there allowing somebody to kick the **** out of your legs or be a heavy bag which is just stupid.

If you don't want to believe I'm a kickboxer that's up to you. :thumbsup

I cannot explain, but I have always felt that receiving punches and medicine ball throws - under control - while tensing my abs and exhaling really helps build /strenghten muscle tissue-
Don't know about the scientific fact behind this feeling, could be real physical help for the abs or just mental conditioning, in either case it makes me feel pumped afterwards

It teaches you how top deal with bodyshots. It teaches you when to tense and exhale. It does not make your abs stronger.

I think it can be worthwhile, but not at the expense of sparring or padwork.

haven't you ever done conditioning drills for the thighs. I never said anything about kicking the **** out of any ones legs. To condition someones legs you have to kick them, you obviously don't kick the **** out of them to injure anyone but you kick them hard enough to condition them.

i just cant believe a kick boxer doesn't know about conditioning thighs. :patsch
what kick boxer doesn't condition his lead thigh especially?

I always thought that they conditioned by kicking the heavybag or by the kicking pad?

It doesnt do your neuromuscular system any good. Not only does the abdomen protect the inner organs, it protects the Spine, if you want good abs sneeze a lot. :D

Actually, I've been doing muay thai and sanda for years and never actively conditioned my thighs. You should only need to condition your shins, you should not be taking kicks on the thighs
