No one ever talks about me, an ex champ in a great era, who killed a man in the ring, but regrouped to become a great fighter and
in 100 fights was kod by one man in my last bout, when I was a shot fighter. Who am I ?

Jenkins stopped Ambers twice. Plus Ambers had 106 fights.

My guess was Bud Taylor but he was stopped more than once.
How many fights did Emile Griffith have?

No good he was stopped twice ,and had over 100 fights

dougie, yes Lou Ambers a great lightweight champion was the most forgotten great fighter in modern times. And he killed Tony Scarpati in the ring...ESB should look at him on youtube. A tough S.O.B.

No B it is Lou Ambers who at one time beat Tony Canzoneri, Davey Day, Fritzie Zivic, Baby Arizmendi, Henry Armstrong, and to me the best Puerto Rican fighter ever, LW Pedro Montanez who was a great fighter who had the misfortune to fight the prime buzz-saw Henry Armstrong...
Aside: after Lou Ambers was kod by Lew Jenkins for the second time, my dad a cab driver picked up Ambers, and his trainers at MSG..My dad used to tell me Ambers kept saying from the back seat "I ain't got it anymore".
Many years later I saw Lou Ambers playing cards with my dad's cronies...
    I didn't utter a sound...cheers B.

How about that... I was sure Burt thought of John Henry Lewis!

Seldom mentioned today, killed a man in the ring early in his career, more than 100 bouts, was ko'd by one man... in his final fight.

B, John Henry Lewis was a great guess for sure...JHL is also sadly forgotten today also as a great LH and was kod in his last bout by his pal the prime Joe Louis in JHL's last bout...
P.S. the name John Henry Lewis brings nostalgia to me for, as a young pup my family lived next door to a trainer of John Henry Lewis...I used to go next door every night ,have a salad with oil and spar with some stablemates of
JHL...Never saw him in the apartment though...
