I can say of the 1000 people partying in the main street at Airlie Beach yesterday, lots of then were wearing aussie flags and had painted their faces.....however one thing is for sure....not 1 of them gave a flying **** about corporate Australia, the Government or the republic....it was ALL just plain fun

Many perceive people who proudly don the Aussie flag, or get tattoo's of the southern cross as being racist. I noticed the trend around the time of the Cronulla riots.

It's not exactly my cup of tea to do that on Australia day, but I don't really have a problem with those that do it. It's just people enjoying the day in a colorful way. I was doing something similar during the 2006 World Cup, and will probably do the same later on this year too.

On Facebook there are a few guys carrying on about it. I'm getting the impression there is some kind of out of control parochialism going on in Australia. One guy of Indian extraction was saying how uncomfortable he was walking past pubs on Australia day. Just doesn't sound like anything I remember.....

BTW Oliver Stone is making a documentary series about Hitler, Mao, Stalin et al which explores some of the issues you mention.

The same **** continues today with the Osama's an Saddam's etc

 

Oliver Stone should consider George W. as another study.. along with all previous US Presidents that fulfilled thier terms without being executed.

why else did ford and gm retool the german AND russian auto industries? the same factories were put to desperate use to slaughter millions of eachothers people....these factories were bankrolled by the 'americans' (and i use the term loosely) in the late 1920s...
