As I was considering the "greatest HW" question for the beginning of my sixth decade of life a new perspective on ATG s came to me. Just as I have been looking back over my life, I began to look back over the great champs road toward and body of work in getting to the title who had the toughest row to hoe and who aquitted himself best? Marciano had I think 40 fights before his title shot. He had some great names on his resume, including Joe Louis. He has a very good k.o to win ratio. Did he fight a lot of rounds as opposed to the average champion? What do the statistics say? How really dominant was Marciano ? Tyson had some eay fights because some opponents were intimidated and fearful. Did Marciano have to "go to war" every fight? Marciano and Holmes have in common that they followed closely two iconic champs in Louis and Ali. Their records really do tell the tale. Marciano and Holmes are the best ATG HWs.
