Last night a potentially new star was born when Saul Alvarez outclassed Mathew Hatton. Young Alvarez resembles to me a YOUNG Jerry Quarry in
    appearance..Your'e thoughts if any ?

The guy he beat wasn't the 5th best WW in England and he had a massive size advantage in the 154lb class, don't get confused by title bouts Burt and don't confuse Matthew Hatton with Ricky Hatton either ;)

Having trouble sharing your enthusiasm burt, not only for Canelo but for the attitudes and treatment that surround him. For a 20 year old, he looks alright. But he strongly lacks defensive ability and in my opinion is very slow of hand and foot. I suspect that Dzinziruk or Martinez would easily outbox him on points, and guys who can crack like Kirkland, Angulo, and maybe even Berto can put him down and out. He just looks very vulnerable, very hittable even against mediocre competition and I don't know what he'll look like against better.

Props to Hatton for toughing it out.

I think there are better prospects out there.

Two young stars I'm very high on that bode well for the future of boxing are Saul Alvarez and Nonito Donaire...yes BB, this guy Alvarez is very good and I'm interested in the modern boxing scene more than I have been for some time with these two.

PP,The jury is still out of course on the potential of Saul Alvarez, but his rugged good looks reminded me of the "young" Jerry Quarry...And he has charisma to boot. We'll see...

Swarmer, I was very impressed with the grit and courage of the smaller Mathew Hatton. Not as good as his brother Ricky, but probably has a better set of whiskers...

RC, i agree with you on Nonito Donaire and Saul Alvarez,as future stars, albeit
Donaire is already a "STAR". But allow me to add the name of Ismael Sillakh
a lightheavyweight, who impressed me no end on Friday's ESP fights.
    Remember the name, Ismael Sillakh..:good

I like him as a fighter but I haven't come to earmarking him for greatness yet, Burt. Some of that is bitterness for loss of vCash on the under last night and the over when he fought Baldo though, and I am seeking vTherapy for that psychological trauma. I like the way he puts his punches together, I think he's very strong and sometimes your opponent, who by all rights should be taken out, just ain't going anywhere. Anyway, I'm reserving judgment of the kid for now. He's still a kid. I have questions about his chin and fighting serious guys who are his natural size. We'll see. I think he's coming along alright though. I'll be following him, Burt.

I don't see that at all, Swarmy. I think he has fairly good hand speed. :conf I think he's sharp for a 20-year-old 154-pounder, who will more than likely be a middleweight before long. I can see the lack of foot speed and defensive liabilities though.

He has all the makings of a star certainly, but there are still a lot of questions to be answered about him. It's about time he steps in the ring against a real challenge.

Okay, maybe i'm being a little harsh on the hand speed, it's good but not great. I want my prospects to have bruce lee hands.... You'll notice all my favorite fighters are the same way.

 Speed is fun, I have to agree. I like watching Khan's hands go into a cartoonish blur.
