The Black Russian (not me) is a good shout for the prospects to watch, for sure. I do think Syl may have trouble when he gets in with a really sharp pressure fighter. He is a real mover but he can be backed to the ropes in dangerous spots and get into trouble with those long arms. He's a gangly bugger yet.

My favorite prospects right now are Jose Benavidez Jr., Ray Ximenez Jr., Denis Lebedev, Gary Russell Jr., Frankie Gomez, and a couple others...I just want them to move along quicker:twisted:

He reminds me of a poor man's Harold Johnson actually, and in appearance too kind of. I agree on his weaknesses. Either a fast, or devastating fighter like Cloud or G. Johnson could get to him IMO. I also have doubts as to how fast he can outbox, but i dunno if there is anyone who fits this category in his current weight class.

Let's not get carried away. He's a very good fighter, no doubt, but he's nowhere near the best at 154. I would still pick Sergio Martinez and Paul Williams to beat him easily. He would have fun/competitive/entertaining fights with Angulo, Cintron, Margarito, Kirkland, or Martirosyan, who are the next best tier. I think he would stop Cotto, probably Cintron, and he's possibly too fast for Angulo, but it would be a great fight. Margarito and Kirkland would really test him. Martinez is too fast and strong and too much footwork and experience, and Williams is way to tall and busy for him. Don't count out Martirosyan. However, Alvarez is only 20 years old, so yes, with the proper development, he has a bright future ahead of him if they continue to bring him along properly.

I don't even know what to say about 175 in any regard. The number one contender is a 46-year-old former middleweight champ. The linear champ is a failed former SMW contender. One of the top contenders, a 42-year-old former MW and SMW failed contender/LHW champion, is now SMW contender(huh?). And another top contender, a 42-year-old former LHW champion, is now campaigning at heavyweight. And we have two young stars, one who completely castrated himself during a fight for the vacant linear title is doing nothing, and another who was supposed to be the beast was completely flabbergasted and made to look like a caveman halfwit by the now 42-year-old newly drained SMW contender. WTF is going on in that division? Who are these people? Why am I even ranting about this? I need sleep.

you musta forgot about beibut. he beats them all.

shumenov lhw undisputed champ in 2013. Believe that ****.

I also don't think Cloud looked that bad against Johnson. He just ran into an experienced guy with a style that naturally neutralized his and he was completely forced to fight his fight. He does have poor generalship though, he can't cut the ring against the movers or make space for his bombs. He can punch though. gatdamn.

I'm watching Shu, we'll see. Cloud can certainly bang. I love Glen, but damn. Cloud should've done a lot better in that fight. Then again, Glen could've rationally gotten the decision over a genuine boxer in Dawson in the first fight, so maybe I'm being too hard on Cloud...or too easy on Dawson...or not respectful enough of my own brother Glen, but still...during the Johnson/Cloud fight I said on the RBR thread we've got a smart, tough, old boxer and a strong, young, dumb boxer and they're pretty much canceling each other out. I was rocking the SNV incredulity expression the whole night.

I don't really think Shumenov will come out on top . It was a joke.

He's a solid boxer though, a bit uninspired and he definitely jobbed Campillo in my view... I don't think LHW will have any standout. Pascal has the mentality, but not the skill or proper training. Dawson has the skill and talent, but not the mentality. Cloud has the physicality, but not the skill and maybe some of the mentality.

Sounds like the kind of situation where a dark horse can really come out on top. Dunno. I personally think the guy who ends up on top here will be whoever sorts their **** out at 168 aka Andre Ward.

I think BHOP may very well be the man on top. Which is...it's a little ****ed up, if you think about it. :)lol: @ my being respectful of your Shumenov shout, which wasn't serious even though I thought it was because I'm not on my game )...I really should be asleep right now. But...I...just...can't...seem...to...turn...the...computer... ... ... off.

Got to agree with this, really.

In one sense, yeah, you can say this kid is going to be a headline fighter.

Other than that? He showed bad temperament, landed lots of power shots to body and head without taking a third tier fighter out, looked poor defensively all against a guy who, like PP says, has no pedigree and comes from a lower weight division. All in all, nothing special, though he may arrive yet.
