Very nearly a perfect candidate - alas, Lou Scozza beat Joe to the Cinderella Man by 5 years.

Durans chin would be talked about in complete awe if not for the spellbinding Hearns demolition.

Up to the age of 40 he had what, a couple of flash KD's to a high level lightweight with great timing if we put aside No Mas. He's got a decent chin resume in that period with a huge variety of good to arguably great or close to it lightweights, the initial SRL fight after moving from 135, Moore, Hagler at a time when no-one was lasting the distance, Barkley at 39yo.

Even from 40 to 50 only Joppy stopped him when he was 47 (may not have been down from memory) in a title fight excepting the shoulder injury stoppage to Lawlor. Only KD may have been the fight before Joppy against Hernadez which he won fighting a guy 168.

Chin threads come up on a regular basis and Duran never gets mentioned, certainly not in the deeper discussions. If not for that one single fight against Hearns he'd be noted as having one of the greatest chins of all time. Apart from that his resume is quite astonishing really chin wise.

    How about Toney vs. Nunn?

Plenty of success lay ahead of Nunn, going 22-4 and 5-3 in world title bouts after his eleventh round savaging.

Nigel Benn was good at that; ie DeWitt, Barkley standing up to Tommy, took out Hagler’s half-bro Robbie Sims for the first time in his career

Michael Nunn’s single-shot good-night-kiss win over Sumbu Kalambay was the only time Sumbu was stopped in 64 fights, and he fought good opposition.

Joe Louis retired Paolino Uzcudun with a 4th round stoppage, the only time the Basque was stopped.

Joe was the only person to stop Billy Conn and he did it twice.

Jack Johnson was the only person to stop Jim Jeffries.

Kalambay's chin was not that great, though. He got dropped by Euro-level fighters Francesco Dell'Aquila and John Ashton, and Herol Graham dropped him twice in one round, I think once on a jab. That he got knocked out just the once had more to do with his defense than with his chin.

Venice Borkhorsor's one stoppage loss came against a guy called Detkat Kiatboonyong, for whom Boxrec has only four listed fights.

DeWitt was stopped by Quinones and Kalambay before Benn ever did it.Not in the ballpark.

Eh? Nobody said he wasn’t? Still all the other biggest punchers around couldn’t dent him.

The Quinones thing was a one-off.

This one is a pretty recent one but Badou Jack getting slept by Derek Edwards. Jack has gone on to walk through shots from brutal punchers like Adonis Stevenson but an overhand right from the limited Edwards had him out on his feet barely a minute into round one.

Mercer getting knocked out by Klitschko is another one. Mercer's chin was legendary but I think old age finally caught up him in that fight...well that and Klitschko's power.

Jack and Mercer are both legit bad asses like Briscoe that for the most part were durable as hell against the stiffest of competition.
