You are given the opportunity to bring something new to the sport of boxing...this opportunity will be centred around bringing boxing to a wider audience, and back into mainstream sports. Leaving the rules and regulations, belts, etc alone...what would you decide for this one-off card? You get to choose the boxers for the card...promotion, etc will also be part of your innovation (Money isn't a concern either). Would you decide to put the card on PPV and stack it with well-known boxers? Or would terrestrial reach a greater audience? How would you promote and advertise? Boxing has recently been shown in cinema's, any creative ideas on were else boxing could attract a crowd? What destination and venue would you choose? (Looking for new ideas, not particularly ideas that have been used successfully or unsuccessfully in boxing before). :good
Boxing should be displayed on a massive screen where homeless people are and those type that light fires in bins, and have them place bets like they did in running man. All so we can see them go wild and jump around crazy.
Scheduled REGULAR tournaments/ranking matches. The problem with boxing is that events are so random it is hard to have enough game fighters at peak at the same time. So you end up with crap cards. If every sanctioning body held quarterly ranking fights that tapered off, (4, 3, 2), until a fighter got into the top ten? Boxing cards would be a lot more competitive and people could plan to attend. Fighters could plan their lives. Boxing cards are crap because after two elites get their heads out of their butts it is next to impossible to have a stacked card. The only people in the know are insiders. Game outsiders won't risk their careers on BS. The opponents end up being cans.
Honestly I would bring Prizefighter to the United States, put it on ESPN or HBO. Give a little Hour pre-game show going over the fighters in the tourney. Try to tell their stories, give the fans something to root for. Then have these guys fight in one big tournament at MSG, Staples, etc. Do this 4 times a year.
INSTANT REPLAYS More than anything. Then, forcing bad judges to explain their scoring in order to be allowed to judge a fight again.
Cheaper PPVs for a wider reaching audience. Or discount PPV coupons from sodas, sports drinks and energy drinks, not just 1 beer brand.
Make every single fight a 60-40 split in favour of the winner. This is not negotiable and will be governed by a single sanctioning body.
Floyd "Money" Mayweather vs Amir "Bankroll" Khan on a lavish flashy flamboyant big boy toy cruise ship!
Are you serious? It might be just me, but the way you structured that sentence, it sounded like they were having boxing fights in a gay cruise ship.
