now that the date is amenable to both parties, we can go ahead discussing where we stand on how the big fight will go. IMO, Floyd wins this by Decision. I make that prediction with the following assumptions:

    1. PBF will be the same version that fought Marquez,
Pac will be the same version that fought COtto.

    2. The only way Pacquiao would win by D is if he knocks down Floyd, which I don't think will happen.

    3. Fight is at 147

-if the date set is March 13, there is nothing that Roach can do to turn Pacquiao around into what he intends. Roach did state that he needs more time for "the ultimate opponent." And I believe him. Floyd's defense is a puzzle that would probably need months of study. The only person to give advice on beating the Philly shell that floyd employs is Leonard and Manny is no sugar ray.
-I see Floyd outboxing Manny. Manny will be the aggressor and it plays great against Floyd's ability to move and get power on his right through his backfoot. It's a great move that maximizes power especially against a target moving towards your punch. And that is one of his many talents. He won't be able to knock Manny out, he'll aim to outbox him with precision for 12 rounds. Because that's the smart thing to do and regardless what people say, Outboxing the p4p King will still be entertaining (frustrating but entertaining).
    - Manny's only chance of winning is by Knocking FLoyd down for extra points or knocking him out entirely. THat is what Manny will be looking for and Floyd knows it. It will be an easy task to prepare for something you know is coming.
-Sometime, Manny will catch him, Floyd will shoulder roll and return fire, then floyd will move out of danger again while countering. It might not happen that way all the time, though I hope Floyd will taste a mini-war often during the fight.

It's hard for me to concede Manny knocking down Floyd, that's why I lean towards the pretty boy to win this. I'd still root for Pac but I have no problem with Floyd winning this with his face bloody. THat's my only hope: Floyd wins but takes punishment for it.

feel free to comment. I have to go out of town later and won't be able to reply but hey... this is ESB and no one lacks for debate.

    My take:

    Round 1.

Both come out of the corner...they square up in the center of the ring. Floyd looks defensive, and covers up from a left jab from Manny.

Another left jab from Manny as Floyd starts to backpedal to his left.
Manny throws a right cross, and Floyd deflects it using his shoulder roll. But as he does so, a straight left out of nowhere lands on Floyds chin. And is KTFO.

Manny wins and calls out Vitali.

Not a bad assessment. But no Pacquiao fan should ever deny him again. I did three times - against De La Hoya, Cotto, and Hatton. (I didn't think Hatton would win, just thought it would be a much tougher fight.) Never again. But of course, I have legit reasons for thinking he could beat Floyd other than the fact that he has surprised me numerous times, but that's a whole other post.

I underestimated Pac against Oscar (or actually overestimated old Oscar) and picked Pac by KO of Hatton and Cotto. This time, Pac will lose a decision, and possibly a one-sided one. Pac destroys aggressive fighters with spotty defense (Cotto, Hatton). He is vulnerable to great counterpunching (JMM). Floyd is a master counterpuncher, and has some of the best defense the sport has ever seen. I'll be rooting for Pac but my money will be on Floyd.

I think this will be the assessment of most people. It certainly does seem like the most obvious way to predict it...

The only chance Pac has in this fight is in the first 3 rounds or so where he could catch PBF cold and not fully into the groove of figuring Pac out. After PBF figures Pac out he's done stick a fork in him.:deal No way pac can win a boxing match against PBF which it will be after round 3 or so.

pretty good fight but i think Pac's preparation is key because he will have to be different than with his last fighters as they all where stalking him and there to be hit....Pac will have to stalk and open up and that also leaves him to countered and hit....its going to be a great fight...i think the traininers will have to prepare each fighter very well.

Pac's chance is in his footwork to force an exchange. and If he shows power beyond belief in a rare exchange then sure he can stun and score rounds but he'll have to be utterly relentless to do so. It's just difficult to see Manny gaining anything different in 2 months of training. It will be more of the same and where that stands, it doesn't favor him.

... if there would be three separate rounds where they trade (or forced to trade), I'd be happy. If floyd goes on the ropes thinking he can shoulder roll his opponent to death, Pac will take advantage. I think floyd will avoid that though.

My only concern for Manny is if he can land flush shots on Floyd, taking the punishment im sure Manny can handle his shots, but if he cant land anything the fight will look like the JMM fight!

Have you even boxed before? Orthodox fighters lead out with their left and follow up with a power right cross...So how can Manny do all of this when he's a southpaw?:rofl

You must be new to the sport because thats some new **** there...Manny throwing a left jab!:rofl:lol: Followed by a RIGHT CROSS!

Man I see this fight with Manny coming out in the first few rounds a little tentative. Trying to close distance and getting peppered with jabs with the occasional straight. FMJ won't be doing much damage as he will be finding range. Now Manny will have a chance to catch Mayweather being lazy or misjudging distance. FMJ tends to occasionally throw a bad 1-2 in the early rounds.

After rounds 4-6 and Manny isn't far ahead? Manny is on his way to sleep. Mayweather will become increasingly accurate and aggressive. As punishment, fatigue, and desperation grow, Manny will become increasingly easier to hit.

I really can see a KO in this fight. JMM actually will look head and shoulders better than MP in this instance.
