When I was growing up my Dad used to tell me about all the great fights he watched on tv late at night through the 60s, 70s and 80s. Through the 90s we couldn't afford Sky so it was five live all the way. I then have the dosh to pay for Sky and then Setanta and have all the boxing that they can show. This sounds long winded and a bit melodramatic but Setanta have allowed me to watch the kind of fights and events that my Dad used to watch in his era. Calzaghe v Kessler, Cotto v Judah, Cotto v Margarito and JM Marquez v Pac are ones that stick out in my memory. I don't know what happens from here on in but I'd just like to say thankyou to Setanta for making a boxing fan extremely happy on those and other Saturday nights. And not a lot more has to be said about the Boxing Hour except sheer class. As for Bunce himself not many other journalists/tv sporting analysts would want to find the time or effort to reply to all the emails he received. Just getting my name shouted out on broadcasts was a bit of a buzz I have to be honest and even Bunce gave me some advice when I was doing my writing. So, to Bunce thankyou very much. I've learned a lot from what you've learned. That's the cornyness over with. All the best to the Setanta employers and I hope you get work elsewhere. Cheers Shaun Brown
wow,it really has hapened then! just the "ceased trading" sign on all setanta channels better cancel the direct debit tomorrow,****................they could have given bunce one more boxing hour!!!... ....aaghhhhhhhhh
totally agree. sky ppv ruined my childhood the fights i should have been watching were out of my reach and had to wait for the VHS that someones dad did of the fight that i got 4 weeks later in school. setanta gave us the fights at a cheap monthly rate that was assesable to more of the population. thank you
Thanks for the Boxing Hour, it was the one show I watched every week, hope it can be continued either on Sky, or, as a podcast. Cheers again UB
yep, i'm with you all the way, the last few years boxing enjoyment have been generously supported by setanta, and i thank them.buncey has been a legend and should be utilised by anyone to continue his great work in the business. nostalgia and boxing go hand in hand, which is probably why our fans are some of the most passionate and loyal around.most fans have had a history of their fathers boxing stories, and have passed on nostalgic nuggets of great fights.my boxing history is very similar and i can now do the same. i hope that buncey finds a good new home and pushes our passions for the fight game onwards and upwards. :good
i am gutted, absolutely gutted if the boxing hour is gone. bunce..you had a cracking show, and andy was superb. i don't normally get abusive on here...but **** the people who didnt like..**** them.
Bunce.. The MYTH..THE LEGEND. I think a newspaper campaign should be started!! Lets get the billboards out and get him and Kerr back on the screens.... Until then....Thankyou!!
Yep, thanks to Buncey, Kerr, Charlotte, and all those that were involved in the production of Buncey's Boxing Hour. It is a sad loss, but hopefully will be revived in another channel.
