Well done with that post mate.
I've rarely felt as sad about the loss of a public figure as I did about Johnny.
I really hope there's a good place and he's in it.

I have a few of him at the super six final, you know all the negative stories you hear about what he did to his wife and his past, you meet the guy and you do not even think about those stories you have read about him truly a kind hearted person

    Tapia is very missed.

He looked like one of those type cats who made you feel good, there are few like him around. A tragic loss, like PTF said, hope there's a good place and I hope he's there, united with the people he lost during his lifetime.

Glad to see he has a smile on his face here. Fortunately it appears his death was relatively merciful and painless.

Aside from Arguello's suicide and maybe Vernon Forrest's murder, no other boxer's death troubed me like Tapia's.

It ****in breaks my heart that every thread about Johnny on the General makes a quick trip to the back pages.
I suppose I have no right to compalin if people don't want to talk about Johnny, but I really wish there was a bumper sticky just where we could talk about Johnny.
I know I sound like an old whinger and I'm very biased but I don't care.Johnny doesn't seem to grab attentionn and I don't get why, especially when you see some of the thread topics.

It is simple my friend. Most of the posters here are younger than my shoes are old and they don't know anything about boxers or boxing history. Tapia fought to near death in every bout he was ever in. He is a god in New Mexico and always will be. We love to go to boxing shows in New Mexico. They have some of the toughest boxers in the world.

The crowd that doesn't know a zero just means you never truly tested yourself? Warriors aren't remembered for their records, they are remembered for their epic battles and heart.

Man, I really hate it when a guy seems to never get a fair shake in life.

Sure he's one of great fighters, but his tragedy from childhood and his untimely death.

My favorite fighter ever, he made me a hardcore boxing fan in 95, before I watched Tapia I was a casual. I was choked when he died. It'll be a happy day for me when he gets his much deserved HOF induction.
