A point not mentioned in any of the B-Hop writeups

They WERE slips though bb. Pascal went down because of a slippy canvas.
Watch it back.

First one-Pascal immediately pointed to the canvas, pointing out it was wet/slippy.
He did it for a good few seconds.
He took a minor shot but it was his legs giving out on the slippy canvas that made him stumble.

The Refs high squeeky voice was weird too.
Sounded like he'd just been castrated.

Then a shortwhile later in the same area he slipped again after minimum contact.(not a punch)..........its obvious that this part of the ring was wet and slippy.

Hopkins was magnificent and won anyway though, so mute point anyway i guess.

He should have ruled at least one knockdown, but other than that I was fine with him. There was a lot of dirty stuff going both ways, but like in basketball the ref has a choice to either call it close or let them play. He let them go.

 

That ref sucked. Pascal was rabbit punching the s**t out of Bhop. Although, i do respect Pascal for not taking bhop's clinch though and retailate unlike bhop's many opponents.

 

it wasn't just pascal who was doing illegal ****, it was Bhop too and you ****s know it, place blame where blame is due.

 

Ian John-Lewis had finally got his first major fight in America and he got an awful fight with Hopkins and Pascal

They didn't make it easy for him. Points could have been taken off for both fighters for hitting on the back of the head.

Hopefully he gets another chance, but he will never be a top teir ref I agreee

 

Last time I saw rosin used was in the early eighties J.G..

One of the commentators mentioned that Coca Cola was poured on some of the ring logo's between rounds to make them less slippery.

Maybe rosin should be brought back.....

 

think both fighters were on the limit but as sad as it is to see from an english ref ....he was hopeless

 

its not the fighters job to make the referees night easy!!!! they are there to fight and as we know its a rough sport, and some of the rough stuff as illegal as it is , is a bit of an art form in itself. Refs job is to limit it as much as possible. As the end of the day you are asking these men to hurt each other.

 

Pretty much. He also judges fights on occaision and does a bad job at that too.

 

I think the first was a legit knockdown, but your right that was a slippery canvas, they were even slipping on it in the first fight

Yep i guess technically it was a knockdown because he took a punch which forced his legs to slip on the damp, so yes ok. I just dont think he'd have glove touched down without the slippy canvas is what im saying i guess.

Yep the canvas was like that in the first fight too.

 

Rumors say he suffered double deteched retina and couldn't see anything below the horizon that's why he missed all these.

 

Wikipedia claims that rosin is still used on boxing shoes. Some movie villains in the 40s-50s (City of Conquest & others - I believe that movie originated the blind newsstand owner trope) use rosin on their gloves to, presumably, blind opponents.
