Leading on from my Tyson thread. Was thinking of fighters who tried to replicate other fighters styles in a good or bad way or just resemble a fighter in way they fight. Like when i see Dave Ryan fight he reminds me a little of Froch the way he moves around the ring. Maybe the Union Jack trunks are a reason but he sort of moves around like him. We've had Matthew Hall fight like Tyson as well as Leon Williams. Doesn't mean these guys are terrible but there not as good as the man they fight like. I'm sure we will have some Naz ones.
Ian Napa imitating Mayweather, didn't quite have the speed or reflexes to pull it off but still was a good fighter on his day. The problem with that style is it looks quite defensive so if you're not throwing sharp snappy shots back whilst soaking up pressure like Floyd does then the judges might go against you as Napa found. Chisora imitating Joe Frazier is another, shame he doesn't have Smoking Joe's left hook though, that cross armed defence does seem to work for Chisora though, is it called the "butterfly defence" or did I just invent that?
Kid Galahad - Poor mans - Naz Chris Eubank JNR - Poor mans - Chris Eubank SNR Andre Dirrell - Poor Mans - Andre Ward Junior Witter - Poor mans - Bambi/Octupus Jody Meikle - Poor mans - NOTHING - This man is a genius!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ian Napa is the obvious call for this one But i also remember seeing matthew hall fight against konecy and he was trying to fight exactly like a mini tyson. Not really seen much of hall so im not sure if he does this in every fight. You cant copy a style. Everyone has their own way of fighting and you have to use your natural attributes. Mayweathers style is very effective but its so hard to pull off.
Groves and Haye. I don't think it's George trying to copy Haye but they both have a fluid quality in their boxing. When I see picture they're often in similar postures Eubank Jr and Eubank Sr Andre Berto andFloyd Mayweather. I remember his trainer was asked why Berto decided to use the Philly shell and all he could offer was "I don't know"
