Ayala did have the potential to be a future 154lber champion, but IMO he was alittle overhyped. He had very good all around skills and he was a banger, but he wasn't as proven as Margarito was even if Margarito had limited experience at 154 he fought much better opposition than Ayala did. If Margarito could take Ayala's power then Margarito would probably win a close decision.

Thing is I wouldnt bet on Margarito taking round after round of Ayala's power..as overrated Tony is by a section of fans who cant let go.

For me Tony M is a guy who is best suited for overwhelming smaller guys at welter and the more that advantage is taken away the less effective he is. Its his size and intense attacking style combined with an iron chin that let him get away with his deficiencies in skill and defense.

Would be a brutal war...Just when I see all things evened out Ayala has the better skillset to land the cleaner shots and at the very least take a clear points verdict but Im picking a late towel stoppage.

Ayala had the misfortune to be around in the same era as Duran, Leonard, Hearns, and Hagler. I doubt he woulda beaten any of those guys.

But Margarito? He destroys. Plaster's style played right into Ayala's hands. Ayala TKO 7.
