(That is assuming Kessler was bigger and the same size as Kovalev)

Who would you pick in this battle of the upright bone breakers?

    Great thread!

What about if Roberto Duran was 6ft 4 and twice as wide, could he have beaten Tyson?

How about a 17ft tall Manny vs a 13ft tall Wlad Klit?

How about a prime 175 pound version of Kell Brook.

Would Golovkin see the second round?

Better at beating Light heavies? He's too scared to even fight a 168 pounder.

He's only brave enough to chase small guys like Brook , Mayweather , canelo and pacquiao. Hell , even 168 Kessler would dispatch this clown.

whereever its fought, its all Kovalev, but Kessler chases a game fight until hes stopped.

Kessler was good enough to unify against two titlists, but so is kovalev and theres the weight difference to consider too. Its a bit too much.

When Kessler was more experienced rather than headstrong at 25, he'd stand more of a chance - one of Miks weaknesses was fighting dumb when he was still young, making stupid errors like accepting title fights when he was injured cost him his titles.

Who would win out of prime Kovalev and post prime Kovalev? And would the winner beat a green Kovalev?

All I know is that they all beat a totally shot Kovalev IMO.

You don't have to magically size Kessler up in this match. The prime Kessler that existed in reality is still plenty competitive with Kovalev. Mikkel was a big SMW.

People too often remember him by just the Froch and Ward fights (and the lesser ones from that era) when he was past his prime. Up through Calzaghe he was a phenomenal talent. Yes , the light hitting Calzaghe did hurt Kessler to his body and Kovalev obviously hits a lot harder and has a body punching game - but a) Calzaghe also fought the best of his career that night (and people forget it was dead-heat competitive in the 1st half) and b) Joe was excellent at getting in a large accumulation of touches on a concentrated area from unusual angles, whereas Kovalev is more of a sharpshooter and, while unorthodox, isn't the master awkward boxing-spoiler that Calzaghe was. He wouldn't have as many clean looks as Calzaghe did just by nature of their styles.

I understamnd Kessler was just ahead. Then his hand injury began to impede him.
