I am sure that the ripped 220 pounder version of lyle that fought george would have knocked cooney out,but probably he should get up of the floor first to win

    Lyle KOs Cooney.

Lyle was more decorated fighter, and could take better punches and come back.

Cooney was hard-hitting and tall but fragile as was shown in his fights vs Holmes and Spinks who never hit nearly as hard as Lyle.

To me a big reason Cooney seemed fragile was because of the team around him.
They turned down fight after fight. That had to effect Cooneys self confidence.
Put more experienced higher caliber people in his corner and he could have possible been a very different fighter.

Cooney caught Holmes in arguably his finest performance just like another
left hook slugger Tony Sibson did with Marvin Hagler. Post career Cooney still
took it to Foreman and a younger hungry Cooney would relish a Lyle type
contest. Would be multiple knockdowns like Foreman vs Lyle or Moorer vs
Cooper. This time though Lyle survives and Cooney is counted out.

Cooney broke Ron Lyle's rib with a body shot in 1980. No reason to believe the same body shot in 1976 wouldn't have had the same result. His rib bones didn't suddenly become more fragile in 1980.

    Cooney by early KO.

Actually, believing a guy who could only last 90 seconds before he got his ribs caved in would actually WIN if he was "more ripped" is stupid.

Lyle weighed NINE POUNDS less for Cooney than he did for Foreman. He was "ripped." Einstein.

Or did you mean if he was "fatter" and less ripped he could take the punches to the chin better that rocked him, and the body shot that broke his rib?

What a stupid argument. Cooney broke him in half.

Combatedeboxeo is fascinated and obsessed with comic book muscle guys not sure why he probably touched himself when talking about a ripped Lyle.....and I agree no matter which Lyle showed up Cooney traps him fast and breaks his body again he wasn't pinned on the ropes and bent over by age he was getting hit with all time hooks

    is pretty evident that
Lyle had a body much more muscular in shape, ripped, heavier and stronger vs foreman, he looked very soft even when he was lighter he looked like if he was low of testosterone when he fought cooney obviously because he was older and was less aggressive. Your argument is like saying "marciano would destroy prime louis in the same fashion because the bones of his face did not get weaker with the age so he would ko his younger version equal" What a simpleton

What amazes me how Cooney fans believe he'd KO every version of Lyle in 1.

If it's true and the result won't change (age and activity won't matter), then I suppose Michael Spinks easily stops every version of Cooney, and 40+ y.o. George Foreman KTFOs every version of Cooney early.
