This one gets done a lot but it is a good one. Frazier definately has a better than average chance in this one. Both men are all-time greats. Marciano never lost but he didn't have to fight Ali x3 and Foreman x2... Frazier gave Ali hell in their 1st and 3rd fights but he didn't do much vs. Foreman... would Marciano have been able to do an better vs. Foreman? If Marciano fought Ali 3 times would he be able to get a win or 2?

Both men had good power, high workrates, and were well conditioned. Marciano was the quicker starter. Frazier was a little harder to hit.

Both were durable but Marciano more so. Marciano was only down twice in 49 fights (Walcott and Moore), he won both of those fights by KO. Frazier was down vs. Bonavena and won by MD, he was also down 8 times in 2 fights vs. Foreman, Foreman won by KO x2.

Marciano beat Hall of Famers Louis, Walcott x2, Charles x2, and Moore. He also beat LaStarza x2, Layne, and Cockell among others.

Frazier beat Bonavena x2, Machen, Doug Jones, Chuvalo, Mathis, Quarry, Ellis x2, Foster (Hall of Famer), Ali 1 out of 3 (Hall of Famer), and Bugner among others.

I'm going with Marciano by 14th round KO.

......if by having a chance do you mean does frazier have a chance of winning without causing permanent damage to marciano i'd say yes----marciano's corner or the referee would step in and stop it.

I can't think of any advantage rocky has here, other than the fact he didn't have to face ali and foreman in his actual career.

Along with Muhammad Ali-Joe Louis, the most fascinating hypothetical heavyweight match up.

No two fighters are exactly the same, but with these two,it's a near as dammit scenario. Both agressive swarmer types who can take a lot of punishment. It's easy to say that Joe got knocked out while Rocky did n't,but Rocky never had to face a George Foreman.

Joe has the edge in fighting all time greats.

I see these two going at it,hammer and tong for about ten rounds when the referee stops the battle owing to Marciano's horrific cuts.

When hypothetical fights are brought up, this one has always been at the pinnacle for me. If I could make one HW fight happen it would be this one....Afterwards legacy questions would abound and many would still remain unanswered....But for sheer excitement and brutality this would be the fight.

I hesitantly/reluctantly lean towards Frazier....but I see this so closely contested that it would likely be a difficult fight to judge by virtue of the infighting that I envision...Again I take Frazier by the narrowest of margins.

Not true, perhaps backwards. Both were plenty slow-starters. Both were somewhat hittable. Marciano perhaps more hittable, but he was generally either off the falling line or tucking his chin so Frazier might've been a bit easier to hit more cleanly.

The matchup is basically Frazier's sharpness and quickness of punching versus Marciano's durability and hard-punching volume. Which breaks the other guy down more first? Frazier didn't have an easy going with Bonavena so you can't count Marciano out. While Frazier comes at Marciano's wheelhouse, which would seem like a stylistic edge for the sturdy, harder-punching fighter. Frazier is also the bigger fighter and certainly the biggest puncher Marciano will have ever faced. Frazier also has superior lateral footwork. In fact, it's one of the most overlooked qualities in this type of a fantasy matchup. It's possible Frazier could make Marciano look like Chuvalo in spurts with his footwork. We all would probably have some doubts of that as Marciano fights out of a crouch with a far lower center of gravity which would mitigate this foot disadvantage and should ultimately play into Marciano's hands at same level. However, to be fair Frazier is greater, more skilled in-fighter regardless of Marciano being a tad shorter and having the lower center of gravity with his crouch.

Honestly, flip a coin. Initially I've always adamantly favored Marciano in this matchup. I also think he fairs less bleakly against Foreman and Liston types. The more I contemplate the match-up the more I can't deny Frazier's chances. He may break down Marciano before Marciano can really get going. However, I believe too greatly in Marciano in these types of matchups. Charlie Goldman stated the same, too. The only fighter that tried to maul and out-muscle Marciano was Layne. Marciano did not look like such a slow starter when his man came after him. In fact, against Layne's momentum his lower center of gravity and in-fighting looked more refined than usual. Marciano only lost the first round and then preceded to wreck Layne. Layne is certainly worse than Bonavena (But a better fighter than some probably give credit for), but the stylistic dynamic suggests Frazier probably plays more into Marciano's edge. What evens it up and makes it more interesting is Frazier's edge in sharpness, speed, size, and footwork. Ultimately, I think I'll still take Marciano in a grueling, fight ruining for both men decision or late stoppage.

Their defenses are different. When are people going to understand that boxing isn't black & white and their are subtle dynamics and nuances. While Frazier is bigger and probably more skilled, in a grueling war of attrition I would suspect the harder punching, more durable fighter to have the edge.

Marciano also has superior stamina, too. I see this category often argued as even and I can never agree with such an assessment. His work-rate and training regiment were simply superior.
