Even in their fight, I thought MAB won by a slim margin, a draw would be fine as well. Juan Diaz was doing quite well until the stoppage, he definitely trouble JMM plenty in the fight. JMM shows his brilliance in digging deep and come out with a beautiful KO win. But this fight does not change my mind in the fact I think a prime MAB still would clearly beat JMM. It would have been a great fight though.
I think in his prime MAB could do everything JMM can do, but he could also kick it up into another gear if he had to brawl. However, I also think JMM is naturally bigger than MAB, so head to head it would be hard to call a winner.
Juan Manuel Marquez and Marco Antonio Barrera are both great fighters, who have had drastically contrasting careers. They would fight a close fight even in their respective primes. I give Barrera the edge, contrary to the general consensus, I believe he was the most skilled of the three Mexican greats of this era.
I just felt that last night, JMM got hit quite alot by Diaz and it took a while for him to adjust. JMM has shown incredible heart and will in his fights, I mean its not like the fights arent competitive, he manages to pull it out but hes taking tremendous damage. Prime for Prime, Id still favor MAB ever so slightly, his power will bother JMM
Maybe we would have known if MAB didnt duck the **** out of Marquez. There is a reason he did along with Hamed and Morales. Marquez is simply better.
You have no idea what you are talking about. Juan Manuel Marquez did not get the fights he wanted because he let his trainer do his managing. He was completely incompetent at it. Instead of fighting a Pacquiao rematch he suggested Marquez go to Indonesia to fight Chris John, coincidentally, John's backyard. He got jobbed as a result. Marco Barrera did not feel the need to duck any fighter in his entire career, because he had confidence in himself. This is reflected in the fact he re matched every fighter he ever lost to, with the small exception of Marquez, who may be coming up after Khan. For the record, Juan murders Marco at this stage, but this is no indication on how a prime for prime fight would play out. You don't need to discredit a great fighter in the process of giving accolades to another.
the difference is that mab has the power to hurt jmm. diaz does not. i too will pick the MAB who defeated hamed against any version of JMM
It would be a close one but Marquez would have a better chance in beating Morales than Barrera back then. I'm sure a fight back then would call for a rematch.
