Hasn't ESB gone ****in downhill. None of these twats ever used to come to the MMA forum.

Prime Tyson in the UFC.....:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl. Would not even last a round in K-1 even with the abysmal roster these days.

A prime Mike Tyson working on a little bit of wrestling skills to go with his superior boxing skills would be a deadly fighter.

Some forget that Mike grew up in the tough streets of Catskills NY.

He's fought in a real street octagon. No refs, no tap-outs.

Saw an interview with Tyson recently, and he was asked if he thought he could beat Royce Gracie if he had entered one of the early UFC fights. He said he would have to train for it before he'd fight with those rules.

Bernard Hopkins was also asked if he could beat an MMA guy, and he said no way he could win. He said he would get his butt kicked.

A prime boxer would need to devote a tremendous amount of time to be able to compete with top grapplers. It would take years. There's a lot more going on than people think. To think you could just train a bit in wrestling and be able to stop a Division 1 All-American wrestler, or an Olympian, from taking you down is just ludicrous.

If he switched over when he was still young and worked a lot on his TDD he'd probably do well.

Cro cop came from a striking background and in his prime he had great TDD/Anti-wrestling. Of course not every boxer would be able to learn wrestling as fast as cro cop did, but some would be able to pick it up quickly enough to make an impact on the sport.

No question you are correct. If you train really hard and devote yourself, you can become a capable grappler. I can't remember which MMA fighter said it, but they said Cro Cop was at the level of a "good purple belt" several years ago. At that level you are at least capable of solid defense, plus he had (has) a solid aptitude for wrestling.

All I'm trying to say is that it is very difficult, and takes complete devotion to learning the art. With no training, or barely any at all though - it's gonna be a sad night for the boxer. I can understand the hatred, or disrespect for grappling though - it isn't pretty when someone just gets taken down and choked out, almost like it isn't fair or whatever. It works though.

I took BJJ for about a year, and even as just a white belt - after about 5 or 6 months, I was able to destroy new guys who were much bigger and stronger than me. It was like they had no clue what to do, and they were just helpless. Against brown and black belts though - damn.. those guys were ridiculously good. They were playing chess and I was playing checkers.

People who talk **** about grappling are just fooling themselves though. If I get in a fight and the guy is obviously better than me and I can't land any solid shots, I'm gonna take him down - I'm not gonna stand there and let him beat me up because it isn't "manly" or "cool" to grapple lol. I think it isn't manly to get my face smashed in - I'll just go ahead and rip his shoulder up or choke him out, and walk away healthy. Better yet, I'll just avoid the damn fight in the first place if I can.

Talk to me when a boxer signs up to wrestle an olympian. We can both play that game. Boxing and MMA are like football and hockey. Some similarities but totally different sports. David Haye gets obliterated by Cain in MMA. Cain gets murdered in boxing. Why? Because they're totally different sports in which each is an expert in respectively.

I dont get what's so hard for people to understand.

You can tell some guys just have a great fight IQ for striking and some are just natural grapplers. Then there are some guys that are just so athletic that they can pick up whatever they want and be good. Tyson would be one. Floyd would be another great sprawl and brawler if trained properly. I could see a good deal of gritty Mexican boxers making waves if they learned defensive grappling. Cro cop was one of those guys who picked it up well. But Jerome Lebanner, not so much.
