How many of those KO victims will be or have been inducted into the Boxing Hall Of Fame? Let me guess 0! The guys Tyson did fight that will be inducted into the BHF KO'd him. Don't give Holmes or Spinks! Holmes was old hadn't fought in almost 2 years and Spinks was a blown up Light heavy who was given a gift win over Holmes.
Not a whole lot at Heavyweight. The opportunity for that is very rare. Frazier UD15 Ali (31-0) Foreman TKO2 Frazier (29-0) Ali KO8 Foreman (40-0) Bowe UD12 Holyfield (28-0) Holyfield MD12 Bowe (34-0) Come to mind and are pretty damn close. Nitpicking that and boasting anything else would be fairly absurd.
Watched the Tyson doc again recently. Loved the clip of his voiceover as he approaches the ring. 'I'm scared but I'm totally confident. I'm scared. As I get closer I get less scared. When I get in the ring I'm a God'.
Don King knocked Tyson out..............................King destroyed Tyson's career, or so it appears...................Tyson should have kept Kevin Rooney...........after Cus D'Amato's death harmed Tyson, but when Jimmy Jacobs died, it was devastating for Tyson.................then along came Don King................
Some could argue that ali wasnt prime againts fraizer after a long lay off and frazier wasnt prime againts foreman? Personaly i think tysons win over spinks and holmes gets vastly underated! Didnt holmes have an exabition match inbetween spinks and tyson? No one every treated holmes like that before or after, and he went on to have some real good fights too!
He was idolized and as a result somewhat overrated. Style wise he would be a nightmare for many fighters, particularly a younger Tyson who seemed to have no fear regardless the size of the man he was fighting. It became sad watching him fight and lose to the likes of McBride.
Anything could really be argued but I mean, compared to who and what? All of those wins are pretty damn exceptional. And yes, Tyson's wins over Spinks and Holmes are good. It's better than nothing and both are ATGs. Spinks had proven his mettle, had only 31 fights and Tyson was the only man to beat him. I still think he'd trade it for an Ali, Frazier, Foreman or SHW talent like Bowe.
Completely agree, this has stuck with me so much and i use it. When training, i get myself terrified, scared of what i have coming, whether its an exam, a fight, a game, anything. I intimidate myself, and fear is such a driving force. Cus was the perfect fit for Tyson, he instilled that fear just enough so that it left at just the right moment, when he was sliding through those ropes and pushing the stuffing in his gloves.
