Paul Williams would have lost a clear decision to floyd. Prime floyd footwork what have circled him all night.

Still a dangerous fight to take from a WW who can happily fight at Middleweight.

Williams would have given Mayweather more trouble than any of his WW bouts to date. Still think he would have lost, but Williams' activity and physical advantages (whether he uses his height or not) would make it close.

    I agree with OP.

Williams has an ironchin at welterweight. (beat plasterito) And throws 1000 punches a fight. It would be a stylistic nightmare for floyd.

If delahoya was able to get a split decision against floyd off those shoeshines what do you think P-will would do? Mosley didnt even want to fight williams.

If Floyd turned to into a southpaw, just maybe.

Williams throws too much from too far away. Mayweather would have to advance just to get in range. A really easy fight for Williams, though boring as Mayweather shells up.

Now don't get it twisted, Mayweather is the better all around fighter, this is just a HORRIBLE matchup for him.

I always thought Williams was well poised to expose Floyd's flaws, but eventually Floyd would figure out Williams was exposed to a right counter, and once that happened, he would dominate from that point out. Williams did, however, have the tools to completely neutralize Floyd's defense.

P Will was so weird. The guy had an freakish physique. His reach was really weird, his arms were SUPER long and he was at least 6'3-6'2. With his physique he could have just used his jab to set up everything and fight tall. He would've probably been able to beat mayweather had he perfected this style of fighting. But running in head first giving up his height, he would be tagged all night, while mayweather would not really get hit with many meaningful shots.

  9. Margarito and Williams were a big part of the reason for Floyd's retirement...

This is a terrible analysis. Williams would live himself wide open for shots. Mayweather wouldn't need to advance to get into range, Williams fights like he is small most of the time so he would give up his height to get hit. Citron who is not a southpaw was having success in the first 4 or 3 rounds landing his right hand before he leap frogged out of the ring. Martinez had no trouble continually, and Lara had no trouble. Williams an be outboxed, mainly because he doesn't use his height most of the times and because of this he doesn't get good leverage on his shots, so being tall, his punches will not have the same affect as the shorter fighters (also their punches come first). He just throw a lot of volume punches. If he used his height, he would have been hell for mayweather, because Williams actually had pretty good power, but he didn't use his height most of the time, had he did, he probably wouldve had more big KO's. The only way williams would give mayweather hell was if he used his height and worked behind his long as jab to setup of his offense. I wished he had left his coach and hooked up with Steward a while back. It wouldve been something to see him fighting with a hearns style. Hearns lite would beat Mayweather.

The fight would be tough but clear win for mayweather, only touch because of his freakish physique, heart, and volume, but he dominates Williams without a doubt. I don't even want to hear about Margo, that guy would have gotten utterly dominated.

I used to be of the belief that williams was the man to trouble Floyd but I have to admit I got it badly wrong.
He would get caught with short jabs and lead hooks all night. As time went on I actually realised that far from being stylistically wrong for Floyd,he was actually stylistically perfect for him.
