For all the good things that have been said of Pernell, let's not forget he was also extremely tough and durable too. Thought it was worth mentioning. He was unique and we might not see another prototype of him in our lifetime. While i can't see Pac doing anything with him, how would Mayweather fair against him.
Another thread maybe, but no ones mentioned it.

 

if Pac could hit Hatton with ease and knock him out, you can bet your bottom dollar he would find Whitaker with ease and take him out.

I'd agree with that, it's because as he shoulder rolls he leaves a space for the southpaw right hook. That's why i say he would be more aggressive and square up as he wouldn't be using that shoulder rock away much. He would become almost Winky-esque at times IMO. What a shame this fight may never happen though and Floyd has to take a big portion of the blame IMO.

It's clear to the discerning among us all that Mayweather didn't really fancy the fight, for whatever reason. And decided to go on "vacation" when Pacquiao called his bluff and accepted his demands. There's a lot of ways a man can say i don't wonna fight.

In my view mayweather is waiting for Pacquiao to fade, slow down physically and develop scar tissue around his eyes. Accusing Pacquiao of being on steriods is the biggest compliment you can give to him, because you're basically saying i'm so amazed with this guy and what he's doing...he can't possibily be this good...without being on some sort of performance enhancement.

I'm telling you fellas, Mayweather Sr. was shook up by Pacquiao...first in the Hatton fight then in the Cotto fight, he couldn't believe what he was watching from a fighter he never rated and he truly thought would get beat. Floyd Sr. is the root and main reason why Floyd Jr. is not taking the fight IMO. They're looking for some sort of advantage whether it be psychological or physical and won't make the fight happen unless they have it on their terms...I'm absolutely convinced!

If Pacquiao destroys Margarito, then this fight will probabily never happen unfortunately.

 

I was thinking more the straight right, down the pipe rather than the right hook.... but yeah it's plausible that a southpaw can get through with that shot.

Thinking about this fight more though, I just see Floyd catching Pacquiao on the way in with lots of lead rights and keeping him off balance..... then I see Pacquiao getting left hand happy and being taken out at some point.

 

think pac's speed and workrate might have just won him the day.

Thats a good point, but dont you think Pac overshoots the left hand? I think because of his tendency to overshoot the left hand, that the transition from that punch to bringing the right hook into play will come slower than it normally would, which IMO, would give Mayweather a better opportunity to avoid it.

I don't think he overshoots it as much as he did in the early days. He's learnt to get just enough on it to catch the opponent, keep his head low and get back out...and not lunge in as much. It's one of the things he's improve along with bringing the right hand into play. I've also noticed Floyd can overshoot and jump in with his right hand too, especially when he throws it as a lead and is on the front foot. He looked really sloppy with that punch in the first half of the Zab fight.

You're right though, Pacquiao still presents a big opportunity for a precise and accurate puncher like Floyd to counter him when he throws that left. I'm really surprised with how often Pacquiao catches people with the straight left though. He's hit all his opponents with it. What he does is, he hides and feints it so well by confusing you with his herky jerky movement, feinting with the right and then rapidly brings that left over. I don't think this will work as much against Floyd and that's why he would need to really work that right counter hook, which he would have more chance of landing.

Imagine the guy who groomed you, taught you all you know from a very age and gave you your style...telling you, I didn't train you for this type of southpaw and you shouldn't take the fight...That's got to dent your confidence at the very least.

It's similar to the reservations Mike Tyson had about fighting George Foreman, because of what Cus told him about Big George.

Nope. It'd be news to me. I don't really think he overshoots it that much though tbh. The reason he would get countered when throwing it in the past against the likes of Morales/Marquez is because it was predictable and it was pretty much the only punch he had. Plus he use to really square up when he threw it, which he still does to certain degree.
