There's a search function on this forum. This one's probably been done to death.

Robinson would knock him out badly 3 or 4 times in a row.
I doubt Tommy would be fit to fight 10 times.

    Hypothetically....
Sugar wins EVERY welterweight contest by KO, or very wide decision, hurting an knocking down Hearn multiple times

However at middleweight (or 154) Hearns was better and Ray was worse.

I could possibly see what usually happned with Robinson - Hearns beats him in the first fight and then loses in the following 9, maybe a few close ones towards the end as Tommy's fundamentals strengthen and Ray begins to slide.

I can only see Ray losing to Hearns if he tries to out-box him. I doubt anyone could out-box (except maybe Michael Nunn?)

The height difference may be a bit too much but I reckon Whitaker would make Hearns look foolish at times, but wouldnt have the offensive intangibles to get the win.

I think a Hearns has a good chance here, as good as anyone else being considered for the job. Ray could be dropped and he was hittable.

I'll go with the consensus and say Hearns wins 2-3 of 10.

At 154, Hearns was stronger and has a much better chance.

I remember reading articles after Tommy won the welterweight title from Cuevas in August 1980..and they were saying that on this particular night...Hearns would have beaten SRR at
    welterweight...thoughts?

SRR by KO theres no way Hearns stands up to the kind of firepower Robinson had.

I officially submit these 3 names :Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Robbinson and Floyd Patterson- as names that can no longer be brought up in any hypothetical H2H matches.

In the case of Ali & SRR there a few (very few mind you) who detect a so called stylistic match up problem for them...but it still does not matter they will chosen as the victor by over 90% of any threads and polls...Not that I agree, but consensually they are untouchable on this forum.

In the case of Patterson he loses every hypothetical match up he is ever placed in...as a matter of fact people rate him so poorly that he might lose many of the actual fights that he won in reality. I have not seen him placed against a top 25 HW where he is considered by the majority as the victor...

    So what is the point???

For the record I think SRR would beat him in a one time encounter but might not be surprised if Hearns could win one in a trilogy....

I'm going to say it, Hearns might well jab Robinson's head off

This could go like Hearns/Leonard. However with Hearns size and his skills I'd pick Hearns in any welterweight fight.
Hearns and Leonard are the only two welterweights I'd pick outright to beat Robinson.

Agreed. Good point about Patterson. He gets **** on in hypotheticals consistently. I'm also wih you in that Robinson and Ali weren't as unbeatable as portrayed on this forum.

    Great post bud :good.

SRR in my eyes is better suited to the aura of invincibility at WW than Ali is at heavyweight. I'd take a prime Frazier over Ali and the likes of Holmes, Lewis and Louis would be a 50-50 at
the least. I certainly don't know any fighter I'd pick over Robinson at WW and would struggle not to find anyone I'd even put in a 50-50 with him ... Not even Leonard or Hearns.

Your point on Patterson was also a good one. He got blown out by one of the biggest punchers of all time, much like Frazier did. Obviously Frazier had the big win over Ali which is why he is highly regarded in terms of a H2H Heavyweight, but it's just a shame that when talking about Patterson he will always be remembered as the guy who was blown out by Liston twice in the 1st round. Personally I have him around 17-18 with the company of Charles, Schmelling and Walcott. Looking past the Liston bouts he has a pretty decent resume looking past the questionable decisions against Ellis and Quarry x2 whilst he was past his best. It was great he was able to come back after two such deviating loses.

Hearns would take his heart and make him quit in six rounds.
