2 Fight Deal — They have to fight TWICE regardless of whether the loser/winner wants the rematch. Spence is the A-Side, no doubt. 60-40 split for Spence for Fight 1. 70-30 split for Spence for Fight 2 if he is victorious. 70-30 split for Crawford for Fight 2 if he is victorious.
This way, Spence gets the lion's share of the split, his fragile little ego is safe, and Crawford isn't given a clown split (he does rank higher than Spence P4P, so there is definitely some value there). If Crawford wins, he gets the lion's share (10% more than what Spence got in the first fight), which I think is fair.
70/30 wont cut it. 55/45 first fight, 60/40 second fight would probably sound more appealing to both guys. 70/30 would be a deal breaker for Crawford.
A 'winner takes higher percentage' purse is what would kill this. If they truly believe they deserve more money, they won't budge much.
No. Winner takes higher percentage in the rematch would incentivize both guys to make the fight. It appeases both guys with the promise of a much bigger purse the second time around awhile allowing the first fight to be made with numbers that aren't a fight killer for Crawford.
They need that Saudi money $10m+ guaranteed each would get them in that ring without question and that's the low end
I see. I still don't see them taking this, but good points. It would be a good compromise but boxers never do deals like this. Too much ego.
They're only screwing themselves for not making this fight. The winner of this fight would probably become the #1 PFP in the world and would reap all the benefits that come with that. Crawford is already 34 ffs, time won't be on his side for much longer.
This is a good compromise but neither of them would be willing to make this deal, especially if one of them were to lose.
Spence has been ducking this fight for years now. They'll say there is no money in it and try to fight Keith Thurman. Last fight at 147 before he has to flee the division (because no way in hell he's fighting Ennis who'll be enforcing that mandatory) So he'll fight Danny Garcia and Joey Spencer at 154 then retire. Crawford left without any good options. I have zero faith jermell charlo will fight him - he'll hide behind "fight spence first'. the highlight of both their careers will be Shawn Porter
Agreed, Spence is the reason this fight hasn't come off. Crawford is an undefeated multiple weight class champion and Spence has been demanding 70-80% of the purse, the only reason is to make sure the fight didn't happen.
