"El Matematico" is on just a 2-5 run since "The Chosen One" made his pro debut in December of 2015, but I'm still hoping Núñez can dial back for one more great performance.

Just wrapping up:

Juseim Cruz vs. Nick Stevens Torres, 4 rounds @ light welterweight

 

Cruz is the southpaw, who seemed to be using his quicker feet along with a reach and height advantage to dance around scoring pot shots. The replays of the first couple of rounds show the underdog Stevens pressuring well and landing quite a bit until the pace slowed down.

Cruz falls to an even record, 2-2, while Stevens Torres finally picks up his first professional victory, now 1-2-1.

They have a common opponent, interestingly enough: José Manuel Scroggins Pérez. He knocked out Juseim Cruz in his only previous loss, while Stevens Torres managed to hold Scroggins Pérez to a draw.

 

Miguel Marrero Colón vs. Luis Enrique Rivera, 6 rounds @ lightweight

 

Marrero is 5'8" with 68" reach; Rivera is 5'2" with 62"...

 

Rivera acquitting himself pretty well for all of Marrero's physical advantages...getting overpowered and losing the round but not lying down and putting up a stiff argument. My only gripe with him is that poorly dyed Afro (went for cherry red, on unbleached dark hair )

 

10-9 MMC, landed some big shots but couldn't make a dent in Rivera, despite bowling him over early (ruled a slip/push, correctly, by the ref)

 

Rivera now mostly showboating and playing defense, alternating between flashy matador steps executed while gliding on his toes on a cushion of air in circumnavigation of Marrero and just a standard high guard standing pat in front of him, showing his machismo in soaking up body shots and incidental/glancing head blows around the gloves. Marrero for his part just playing around in there, having fun and experimenting offensively with different combinations.

Kind of has the feel of a spar between gym mates with mutual respect, more than a fight.

I honestly can't tell whether Rivera is periodically doing some kind of goofy honky-tonk chicken-man hands-on-hips dance, or is hoisting up his trunks because his waistband legitimately is loose.
