A questin for Sweet Pea, Raging B(_)ll, and Sweet Scientist.....

    And anyone else who is knowledgeable on this one. The reason i asked these guys is because i know they are.

    How did the Watanabe-Roman fight go?

    Ive never seen it, but from what i have seen, Watanabe looked to be a better boxer, more skilled, if the fight was a chess match i would most likely think Watanabe would take it. Roman's defence didnt look the very best to me. But i think when Roman went on the front foot he looked great. I dont mean Roman was a bad boxer, very good, accurate jab and culd get by with that, but Watanabe looked to have more for that kind of fight imo.

    Much appreciated if you guys could fill me in on this, or any1 else, if there's a link for the fight that would be great.

    I haven`t watched this fight in quite some time, but going on memory Watanabe was one step ahead of Roman most of the night and outboxed him using his fine jab and excellent footwork. Roman did have a few bright spots here and there, but they were few and far between, but again this is going on memory only as I haven`t watched the fight in a few years. Btw, you asked me on the other thread wether the signed picture I have of Joey G is the one you described and the answer is no.

    Thanks RB, so just on memory you think there may be some who thought the decision possibly could have gone the other way? Oh, i have a fine shot of Joey hitting Tiger with a straight right, just got there before his opponent got his right hand in the way of it.

    Thanks for jogging the memory banks RB. By the way, im in the middle of judging Zarate-Pintor at the moment, not sure if you've ever seen a post ive made about the fight, but ive always had a niightmare trying to determine a wiinner!

    I do remember Watanabe winning the fight clearly in my opinion, so I don`t think anyone could really say that Roman might have won. As for Pintor vs Zarate I scored the fight for Pintor by a single point, he hurt and stunned Zarate a number of times during the bout and I thought he did enough to take the title from Zarate, but I admit it was awful close and I had about three or four rounds scored even.

    So you just considered it an out and out robbery, B(_)LL?

    Haven't seen it, but I do know that Watanabe was at the end of his career for the matchup.

    Just gotten through with it now, i actually had Zarate by the closest of margins, i cant remember it too well, but im sure i had Pintor ahead last time i give it a go! Yeah, like you say, very close some of them rounds, couldnt really argue with someone's card unless someone had a landslide in favour of either.

    I saw it a minute ago actually, just didn't have much to contribute given the fact that I hadn't seen the fight. Mantequilla's opinion would be worth more than my own.

    Sweet Pea, you just made me realize that I had the names mixed up and put them in the wrong order. I meant to say that Roman won the bout clearly not Watanabe. I should have waited until I was done posting before lighting up that J, oh well.

    Really, i'll ask him. RB seems pretty confident Watanabe was better on the night. You ever watched the Pintor-Zarate fiasco?

    I have. I scored it to Zarate by a single point if I remember correctly. One of those fights where the result would likely change with extra viewings, similar to Toney/McCallum I in that sense.

    Bahh!

    I am no more knowledgable than many of the other fine posters who post here in the classic section teeto, and as far as I am concerned we are all equals here. I know more than others about certain eras and fighters and the same applys vice-versa, so feel free to challenge my "authority" :lol: whenever you feel like it, lol!
