It's hard to place Tyson to be honest with you. He's my favorite fighter, the guy I grew up with and got me into boxing. I just find it hard pressed to put him into the top 10 based on accomplishments alone. Now if you throw in H2H and most gifted. He would be in anyones top 3. All together he should find a spot in the bottom of the top 10, but I could see why others have him outside of it.
I think Lewis is definately one of the most physically gifted heavyweights in history and he used those god given gifts very well in the ring. However, I found him boring and lazy to watch. I also found the way he carried on after the decision went against him with Holyfield to be very ordinary and unsportsmanlike.
I didn't think anyone would click onto that. Year fair enough maybe Norton is too high, maybe abit bias towards Norton, plus i can only ever envy someone who has broken Ali's jaw.
1 Ali 2 Louis 3 Foreman Lewis 5 Marciano Holmes 7 Liston 8 Tyson 9 Frazier 10 Patterson My list only considers fighters from Louis onwards. (Sadly, time is running out for Wlad and/or Vitali to make my ten.)
I have him at #4 on my Heavyweight list. 3 time heavyweight champion. He beat everyone he faced. I would favor him against any heavyweight in a prime for prime match up.
Pretty gutted to hear Vitali's retiring this year, if it wasn't for the injuries he'd be streets ahead of his brother imo. Unfortunatly I don't think there is a fight out there that would give a huge boost to their ATG standing. Each win will only take them up a notch, if that. How close are they to your top 10?
Lewis was a great champion and the closest thing we've had to a dominant HW in a while. I'd have him ranked just outside the top 10.
Both scrape the bottom end of my top twenty. And I can't see the fights available out there that would change that. Vitali is the better of the two, but Wlad has more time. When Lennox was Wlad's current age he still had the Holyfield rematch ahead of him. As well as Grant Botha Tua Rahman (Twice) Tyson Klitschko. Those last eight were important in securing his legacy.
His accomplishments make it hard to knock the guy, but I don't see him as top 5. Top 20 for sure. Arguably top 10, however not top 5. I believe that a prime Tyson would have pwned Lewis. When reading his book, I was particularly impressed that after losing in the 84 Olympics, that he stayed amateur and competed in the 88 Olympics. That's character.
