If I'm not mistaken Arthur Abraham and Felix Sturm still hold peices of the middleweight titles so why would Roy Jones, Winky Wright, Felix Trinidad or Giovanni Lorenzo get discussed as future opponents. I understand why Winky would be considered as a good opponent for legacys sake, but Roy hasn't been in the low 160's in over a decade, I have no idea how Trinidad deserves a shot at Pavilk, and Lorenzo is a no name as of right now. I guess I would like to see the titles unified, and I don't understand why that won't happen. Felix Sturm hasn't really fought anybody of substance since Oscar, and hasn't left Germany for that matter. Abraham hasn't really fought anybody since Miranda. Any thoughts?
Abraham vs Pavlik needs a little bit of a build up to become a really big money fight for both men thats why Abraham is not Pavlik next opponent. Sturm I think just won't fight outside of Germany or take on guys like Pavlik or even Abraham as Sturm is making easy money fighting lower level guys. Giovanni might get the next shot because he is the number contender so Pavlik will have fight sooner or later anyway also Lorenzo is a New York City fighter who would draw at the Garden. Plus style wise it a good fight sence both men a sluggers.:deal
Why . . . who the **** is Arthur Abraham and Felix Strum compared to RJ, Winky and Felix Trinidad? As if it is a mortal sin to talk about possible future opponets. I can assure you that Pavlik would not run away from a unification fight . . . problem is . . . does Abraham and Sturm wants it?
And don't forget that if its Winky, because of his career/status in the sport, it will be a big draw & a great fight. If its Lorenzo, being that he calls NYC home, is undefeated with a good KO %, the Garden will be packed. Thats all that matters to the promotors. Which ever guy KP fights on June 7th, I'm there @ MSG.
Anyway, I don't see how or WHY RJJ is even being discussed as a possible opponent for Pavlik. There is no way in hell he will be fighting at 160 again -- EVER.
In this circumstance the tiltes should really mean nothing. Pavlik is the champion and any belt holder is just a contender like everyone else. There is no question about Pavlik's legitimacy, he beat Taylor who beat Hopkins who had unified. Unlike the heavyweights there is no question who the champion is. Someone holding a belt right now means nothing. I would like to see a Pavlik-Abraham match or even a Pavlik-Sturm match, but not because Abraham and Sturm hold titles but because theyre two of the top middleweights out there. Especially Abraham. A Winky match makes a lot of sense and if Pavlik could get that fight I'd like to see it happen. Trinidad makes sense financially and publicity wise.
I agree that Pavlik in no way would run from any of these opponents...and I'm in no way comparing Abrahan/Sturm to the likes of RJJ/Winky or Trinidad...but 2 out of three of those guys aren't even middleweights and Winky doesn't have a belt. And as I said before a fight with Winky I can understand, but what I don't understand is why the other two guys with middleweight belts aren't even being discussed. Also....I purposely left out Duddy, I think he has a few more fights to go before it's evident whether or not he's ready for a title shot.
I keep seeing Giovanni Lorenzo's name pop up, and I see that the WBC has moved him into the number 1 spot. This ****ing guy does not belong in the same zip code with Pavlik, let alone the same ring! His last 3 opponents had a combined record of 54-31 with all 31 losses coming buy way of knock out! A fight with Winky with Abraham/Zuniga in the co-feature on regular HBO is what makes sense. Put Lorenzo in the walk out bout against somebody who has a ****ing pulse!! Boo
Does anyone know what the WBC and WBO rules about mandatory title defense are? How long? I heard it was six months for the WBC and I don't know about the WBO. P.S.-I can't believe Lorenzo has moved up to #1. Kelly might kill this kid. I hope they have the ambulance close by and the insurance has been paid for the month.
