Is the belt the champion brings to the ring the organisation's own 'display belt' or the one belonging to the champion?

I would imagine that it's the display belt.
That way, upon winning the title, the champion will be given a different belt (after leaving the ring) which he can keep at home and taking the display belt to the ring would save him having to take it his own belt with him to his fights.

Also, if he brought his own belt to a fight he lost, the belt would then be given to the new champion who would have to give it back to the ex-champion afterwards, only for the organisation to present the new champion with ANOTHER BELT later...

In other words, it makes sense for the champion to take a display belt to the ring.

If he loses, the new champion is given the display belt for appearance's sake, receives his own belt later on and gives the display belt back to the organisation for him to take to the ring for his next defence.

    Is that correct?

I'd assume it would be a display belt. It would make sense anyway.

I know that when McGregor became Champ Champ in the UFC, one of the belts was actually Tyron Woodley's lol

Both yes and no, it’s true that they borrowed Woodley’s belt but that was just because McG wanted show he was double champ, “the 145 belt” actually said 170 and is something they normally won’t do and was given back to Woodley after photos was taken.

For every title fight it will always be a new belt on the line and the champ normally brings his belt he won in his previous fight.

Should have mentioned they didn't let him keep Woodley's belt. So yeah, just for the photos really until he got his own 155 strap.

He won the 155 so he had that, it’s was the “145 belt” they had to borrow because he didn’t bring it, but yeah, you’re right.

Fun fact, my brother was in Woodley’s corner that night and sat next to him when UFC panicked about finding a belt. :)

Doh! You're right, got them the wrong way round.

Cool little story to have. Would have been a good event to be at, jealous of your brother

Each belt is personalized and custom made, the real ones are brought to the ring and if the challenger wins he holds the belt and brings it back to the dressing room for photo ops and press if needed that night, then they return the belt to the former champion that night. The organization/s make a ceremony to present the new belt to the new champion or they mail it to them.

I was taking UFC as an example but it’s the same in boxing.

Thanks but the alternative of having a display belt carried to the ring is so much simpler.
