You're not wrong. I think (I could have the wrong fight) it was when Wilder knocked Fury down hard, I timed it. From Fury hitting the deck to the fight being resumed, I clocked that some 24-27 seconds had passed. The ref's protracted assessments can actually add to the "recovery" time normally availed to a fighter. "Now walk away from me, now walk back, now do the hokey pokey.... okay, how are you feeling now?" Lol. Just on the counts themselves, because it seems that so many refs toll their counts that bit more slowly than one than per second, when a ref's meter is actually perfect to the second, you intuitively interpret it to be a quick count. Many felt Zack Clayton gave Foreman a quick count, but it was actually right on the money.
Did you find it equally strange when the ref started counting when Tunney was dropped? Because he acted the same in both instances the only difference was that when Dempsey was dropped he got up immediately so we didnt get to see if Tunney would stand over him and if he did if the ref would have halted the count to usher him to a neutral corner. Total non issue.
But he was ready to count over Jack whilst with Tunney he was intent on pushing him away. Its a while since I watched it I admit but did the ref actually start counting over Tunney straight away or did he just try and get Jack away.?
Watch it again. As soon as Tunney goes down he leaps in with his hand raised to begin the count. He only stops because Dempsey isnt going to a neutral corner.
Just watched the Navarette fight from last night. 30 seconds between the time he went down and the ref finally got out of the way and let them continue. So unfair to the guy scoring the knockdown.
