i dont know if it's just with boxing, but why do every other sports send in their best pro's to represent their country, while boxing is full of all the amateurs of the game :huh :huh . is boxing the only sport that does this, or do other sports send in the am's too.

i mean, wouldn't it make sense to send the best your country has....like the DREAM TEAM OF BOXING :happy :happy :happy

as a matter of fact, i have an idea.....who would you send in to the olympics to represent the USA...or MEXICO (active fighters only)

    PRO'S ONLY :bbb

Hockey and Tennis send pros as well. Same thing with Track and Field. The only sport I can think of, besides boxing, that doesn't send pros is Baseball.

no because most people that are good pros got there because of their olympic experiences, the world championships, pan american and olympics are used to prepare the amatures into pros. so it wont make sence to have the pros fight instead of up and coming fighters.

plus the pros like mayweather, dlh, hatton, marquez etc.... love fighting for money more than for their country, and a gold medalist wont get 10mil.

I prefer it this way. Amateur Boxing is a very different game and it's always exciting to try and spot potential professionals. I'd go as far as saying you get a more pure "hit and not be hit" ethos than you do in the pros.

The way I see it this is the pinnacle of Amateur achievement and leads in nicely to the professionals. Put this way - Miguel Cotto would have destroyed Margarito were it in the Olympics.

It would be interesting to enter the pros in the tournament under amateur rules. Hatton would be nowhere near the UK team, dare I say it a prime Witter would be much better suited.

Mayweather is the epitome of an Olympic boxer - Margarito might get outpointed.

Baseball sends pros. They're AAA players, but they're pros.

Most Cuban boxers in the Olympics are Pro ready. Same with some fighters representing countries in Eastern Europe. USA tends to send nothing but young talent.
