What will happend to Calzaghe's Ring Belt when he enters the ring with Hopkins? Will it be without an owner?, or will Mikkel Kessler have it ( he is the number two on their list)? Anyone who know the rules?
Calzaghe could still have it. As long as he does not tell The Ring that he won't fight at 168 anymore, he can keep the belt. And, no, they would not just give it to Kessler if JC vacated. Kessler would become #1 but to win it, he would have to beat the #2.
Calzaghe would keep his ring belt even if he lost at SMW. It's his to keep. Just like all the other belts are. The guy who won the belt from you gets to keep your belt for a couple of days to show it off and then hands it back to you to keep as a memento and he pays $1500 dollars to have his own belt made, which he keeps forever, etc. If Calzaghe lost to Kessler after Hopkins, at SMW, Kessler would be the new Ring belt holder - the Ring would make a new belt for him with his name on it. Calzaghe would keep the old Ring belt with his name on it, but would no longer be Ring Champ.:good In any case, if Calzaghe retired tomorrow, Kessler wouldn't be Ring Champion. To be Ring Champ you need to beat the Ring Champ or prove yourself the best in the division by beating whoever the Ring considers to be the best of the rest, if he is good enough. Anyway...who cares about the Ring belt? Their rankings are awful! Hopkins is Ring Champ at 175 yet he is not the best LHW, currently. Dawson is.
