Most of the posters here are better at scoring fights than Chris Mannix. He's terrible in interviews as well, his personality is very unlikable. Why won't DAZN replace him with someone more competent? There are probably many thousands of people who could do better, including most of the posters here. Also, some ex-boxers are very good at commentary, and often better at scoring fights, as they see the subtleties that someone like Mannix cannot comprehend. I've often wondered if Mannix gets to sit and truly pay attention to the fights during a broadcast. If he has other tasks he's responsible for that could explain the frequently inexplicable scorecards.
I don´t get why DAZN doesn´t implement a no commentary audio option. FFS, the last card had like 5 available languages. They actually uploaded the full Usyk vs Fury 2 fight without the commentary track, and it was great! Unfortunately they have since changed this.
Mannix is just part of an absolutely dreadful team And this is why I hate how they are basically now the home of boxing For one, a monopoly rarely works well for consumers but I have to put up with their dreadful commentary team and other rubbish
I don't think he does, i think this last weekend he was scoring a fight and then had a quick interview with someone in between or something like that. I always took his score card as more of a reflection of a casual scorecard from people who aren't trying hard to Score the fight, instead having a good time having a few drinks, talking to their mates etc. Of course they could get an expert focused on doing the score card, but that's not his job. He is there more for entertainment and his scorecards definitely help drive engagement, like this post for example.
I’d take the old HBO team of Roy Jones , Max Kellerman & even ancient “uhhhh” Jim Lampley Over The corny Trio of Sergio Mora, Chris Mannix & Todd Grisham
Of course it's his job If they are using his cards, it's part of his job And why on earth would a company want to use poor scoring cards to "drive engagement" Wouldn't they prefer the reputation of being a reputable outfit? Sorry but that's a terrible take imo
That’d be a great option, but I genuinely enjoy Mora’s commentary and input. They need to sack the other two commentators though.
I guess it depends on what type of commentary you like. I for one hate the modern podcast type commentary, and I also do not like commentators giving their opinions on what a boxer should or should not do. I don´t want a mid fight film study, I want emotion and excitement! I WANT BANG! BANG! BANG!
I'm willing to throw my hat into the ring and be the unofficial scorer on DAZN, I'll even correct the announcers when they say their biased or ignorant scores. My only ask is a very high salary.
DAZN should offer different commentator choices for the most popular languages people are watching in (so, likely, english and spanish). Like, pick these guys or those guys in english. That kind of thing.
Mora is fine. I have zero issues with him. He's a former champ, he knows what he's talking about, he's quick and a good talker, etc. He's the kind of guy they SHOULD be using for everything. For those who hate Mannix -- I suggest listening to the Mannix and Mora podcast. Seriously. It's like 50% Mora telling Mannix he's an idiot and doesn't know anything about boxing. And not even jokingly half the time, he's pretty antagonistic. I remember a recent episode where Mora cut Mannix off and was like "stop. just shut up. this is the problem with letting guys who have never fought, who don't actually know anything, talk about this stuff. you have no idea what you're saying." It's weirdly enjoyable.
I've kind of just tuned him out at this point and am ok with him just scoring. It's not like he's an official judge so who cares I am fine with Mora but I think Grisham adds the least and could be relieved of duty Could really use a solid guy like a Bob Papa or a Dave Bontempo or Wally Matthews
