I have a question for those of you who consider yourselves good analysists, but let me set it up first. In my opinion there are a variety of ways in which Pavlik can beat Rubio. 1. He can come out with his usual "stalker" style, go into his normal seek and destroy mode, and just run over Rubio in about 5 rounds. 2. He can combine his basically good fundamentals with tighter than usual defense to control the fight, show himself to be clearly the man in charge for several rounds, win nearly every round, and then kick it up a notch, and stop Rubio in about 8-9 rounds. 3. He can come out and give Rubio a 12 round boxing lesson, and win something like 118-110. So my question is this: What type of win would you consider the most impressive? And, given that what you would consider to be the most impressive may not be the same as what you expect, what do you expect Kelly to do?
WELL, being that rubio is no walk in the park..i think it would be impressive if pavlik takes him out early, but thru domination, not just one punch ko, cause we all know kelly can crack....i would like to see pavlik still show ring generalship, and dominance in there, just so that i can see where he's at mentally...i would also like to see pavlik use his left hook more..... now, if at anytime kelly lets rubio get back in the fight, kelly better watch out cause rubio's a tough son of a ***** that can crack, and he has the heart of a champ.....at first, on paper i thought this fight was a joke, but now as the fight gets closer, i'm remembering a lot of rubio's fights and he's a pretty solid opponent....
I agree with freddy-wak...it would be most impressive if pavlik shows the confidence of a pre-hopkins kelly and disposes of him early. But, Pavlik had better watch out...rubio is a very skilled fighter who is fighting in his true weight class. he is undefeated at 160.
I generally find a thorough domination over many rounds more impressive than a quick stoppage. For instance, I would have been more impressed to see Paul Williams outbox Quintana and then knock him out, rather than catch him early in the rematch like he did. For Pavlik, just be himself and stalk Rubio. Say, stop him mid to late rounds after outboxing him for most of the fight would be impressive to me.
To be honest, any win over Rubio at 160 is impressive, but, to see that kelly isn't gunshy after getting spanked by hopkins would be the "shot in the arm" that his career needs right now.
Well, I fully expect Pavlik to win the fight, but I agree that it is going to be a tall order for Pavlik to fully put the Hopkins defeat behind him. He needs to just not thinking about proving anything or impressing, and just go in there and be himself. He has always seemed down to Earth, and I believe he can do it.
Rubio is no Gary Lockett. He's not going to take 3 knees in 3 rounds. However, I would like to see a 5 or 6 round version of the same fight. Total domination followed by a KO. There is no need to do anything fancy in this fight.
well i see pavlik starting out a little slow trying to establish the jab. i actually think rubio will take the first round after landing the most effective shots. this will give rubio alot of confidence. in the 2nd round i see Pavlik starting to get his engine moving with rubio movent seeming to take his timing off a bit. thing is rubio lack of head movement cuases him to eat alot of jabs and take a couple of medium powered right hands. . Kp takes this round but no by much. in round 3 rubio feeling like pavlik power is overrated will go in there gungho trying to hurt Pavlik to his shagrin he'll walk striaght into a right hand putting him down on his but. he'll pop up at the count of 6 and stay on the retreat up untill about the las t 30 seconds wen he stuns him with short hook while on the in side . . then we come to round 4 and rubio will be trying to go for pavlik until pavlik fully extend s that big right hand and rock's rubio's world . 3o seconds in rubio then drop to a knee getss up at the count of 8. KP walk over hunts him down and puts his lights out.\ at lest this is how is see it
My sentiments exactly, sir. For the money I paid to get VERY close to the ring, I want to hear what a KP Bazooka right really sounds like, then be happy the rest of the trip about the mid-round KO. Mid round KO, a Zertuche-ish fight if you will. A Miranda-ish one would be better I guess, but I don't think I want to be worried about the outcome, just have a blast watchin' domination, then the KO.:good
Pavlik can do whatever he wants. Rubio doesn't stand a chance. Rubio is smaller and slower. Its a mismatch.
:yep Absolutely! The fact that this "first" fight is back in Youngstown, his own Lions Den, and it sold out practically within a couple hours, I'd say has lit all the fire under his ass he needs to do his job on Mr. Rubio.
One last admission Boo. I have to admit, that even with scores like 118-110, I would IMO be disappointed to not see him KO Rubio. But hell who knows, 'til ya' see the damn thing.
It would shock me to see Kelly start slow. As far as I can recall, the BHop fight was the only time that ever happened. It would also surprise me to see Kelly lose the first round. I'm pretty sure BHop and Zuniga are the only guys who ever took the first round from Kelly.
But that did sound cool.. I'd take that, from where I'll be setting. I got a feeling, KP will be out for blood after taking his first loss, and for his home fans, he might just rip Rubio out of there in less than 3, just to show his MW dominance.
I've always had the feeling that KP wants to serve up a big helping of jab-right-hand immediately. It may be because he knows they are expecting it, and showing them they can't stop him creates a psychological advantage right out of the gate. In my opinion Rubio looks like target practice.
