Dunky, pal, your expertise and knowledge has never been questioned. Only thing I raise an eye at from time to time, reading some of your posts, is your overzealous nationalism, that comes across as quite aggressive and exhibits an irrational distrust of others, from time to time.

I lived in Scotland for 6 years and went to school there (Bonnie Dundee) and we both KNOW that Scots are at their best when they are happy, positive Scots, proud of their nation, but confident enough in their country and nation that they don't feel they need to defend it overzealously, exhibiting insular distrust of others!:yep

A happy, positive, confident Dunky = good for Scottish boxers and Scottish boxing fans = good for Scotland!:happy :happy :happy :happy :happy

    :good :good :good :good :good

I'll cheer anyone on provided I like them, irrespective of nationality, like Stuey I was rooting for Limond against Khan

I've even known to cheer a non-British fighter against a British one (I was the only one in a pub in Butlins cheering Tyson on in the Bruno rematch)

Yep, same here. And that applies to fighter's from anywhere in the World, niot just Brits. I do sometimes have an issue supporting Warren's boys though due to the years of poor match making. I shouldn;t let this influence me, I know, but I can't help it sometimes. I do take a particular interest in Irish fighters, too. I'm English of Irish descent. Or an Irishman born in England as I like to put it. After all, if a dog is born in a stable does that make it a horse?

Its good to know someone else feels my pain on this matter, & I cant help feel that a few posters here were talking out of their arses when they are trying to come across as so bloody nice, but there were celebration threads being made on this forum when Ando got robbed by Nuumbembe.
But as I promised, I wont be arguing on this thread, but its good to know you know where Im coming from Hook regarding this british thing. In fact, its great you said this, as sometimes I feel like Im whistling in the wind when I try to argue the very point you made.

& Im liking the avatar btw Hook:good If the fight gets made like it should, let Arthur mania sweep british ESB:happy

I do enjoy the bitchy arguments and insidious bile spewed over these boards by the likes of Scurla and some of the yanks but I personally use the boxing forums more as a source of information and to gage the opinions of other fight fans.

I tend to be more of an aggressive ***** in the lounge as my boxing knowledge isn't really deep enough to argue with some of the guys on here.

All other things being equal, I'll support a british fighter over a non brit, but for me one of the beauties of boxing is it's not really that important. You like who you like. That can change after one fight if your guy stinks the joint out or the other bloke suddenly shows a herart you didnlt think he had. What I find even more weird is the obsession with the race of a boxer in the US. thats has got to be the most rubbish ever for supporting/not liking a fighter.

It wouldnt have anything to do with you being a jambo now, would it?;)
When it comes to boxing, scottish posters should forget petty football rivalries. Celtic fans not liking Docherty cos he was a Rangers fan, Rangers fans not liking Pat Clinton cos he was a Celtic fan etc, who gives a **** what team these guys support when they are all fighting for Scotlands pride.
Thats what annoys me about scottish people, they take their football WAY too seriously, & let it cloud their judgememnt when it comes to other sports.
Its all "aye I like that boxer/tennis player or whatever, but WHO DOES HE SUPPORT? Cos is if he supports the team I dont support, I will ****ing hate him"
I even knew a Celtic fan who hated Stephen Hendry cos he heard he was a Hearts fan. "Im not supporting that wee hun" he would always boast.
& then when I was at a Eubank fight & pat Clinton won on the undercard, my Rangers supporting mate booed the place down when Clinton was announced the winner on points, cos he hated him for being a Celtic fan.
The scottish mentality is ****in crazy when it comes to football, & to this day I cannot quite get my head around it.

    Rant over!

I'm 1/2 english, 1/2 scot but lancashire-bred and I support all the Brits who aren't dirty.

Sure I have favorites who are from all over the world but would instinctively root for the Brit (and Irish actually).

Oh aye. But thats what Im getting at, just cos hes a hibee we get guys like Jambogaz hating him.

As I have always said, its the one thing I respect about the english over my own people, look at Ricky Hatton. Hes a man City fan but when it came to his fights Man U fans, & all England got behind him. Why Cos the english always support their own, theres no regional or football bull**** goes on with England & its people. When an english sportsman is performing, it doesnt matter where he is from, or what team he supports. The english nation get behind their own 100%.

Its not the case in scotland though, we are a lot more tribal. Different cities hate each other, fans of different football teams hate each other & it isnt forgotten about as easily as english people can put aside petty rivalries.
& for me as a patriotic Scotsman, its so ****in wrong it makes my blood boil that our people find it so much more difficult to rally behind our own flag like the englanders do. There are underlying reasons though, but thats for a lounge debate;)

I was watching 'Dispatches' the other night about the gangs in Glasgow - violence and division seems to be part of the culture up there - truly.
Makes for good fighter though eh :yep

I'm from England. I support the fighter I like, or the underdog if I've not particular style favourite.

    Don't care where they're from.

I cheered Ali over Anderson and Molitor over Hunter. But then I'd cheer for Arthur if he met Gomez again but Gomez if he met Khan, Khan if he fought Scot Harrison but Thaxton if he fought Khan.

It really is about the fighter. Not the flag for me.
