I seen a rumour earlier on in the GF about Pavliks next opponent possibly being Anthony Mundine and i was wondering how big a deal this would be in your neck of the woods. Would the fight be PPV with a big deal being made about it or does nobody in the mainstream really give a **** about boxing?

All Mundine fights are PPV over here. He has certainly mentioned Pavlik's name before, but hes hardly known for taking risks.

Wow, I'm pretty surprised at that, what kind of numbers does he usually draw? I must say that if I was Australian I wouldn't be happy about forking up dough to watch him fight the likes of Geale and Shannon Taylor unless it was cheap and the undercard was absolutely stacked with up and coming talent. Would i be correct in saying that Mundune attracts nearly all of the media attraction to boxing in Oz whilst guys like Vic go largely unnoticed in comparison?

Costwise, they are generally $50AU, undercards generally powerfully average. Numberswise, I dont have a clue mate. Most people would watch them at the pub tbh.

But yeah you are correct in that if you asked a man on the street to name an Aussie boxer it would be Mundine rather thatn Katsidis/Vic

That's quite sad considering Vic and Katsidis are true warriors who aren't afraid to fight anyone whilst Mundine is happy fighting B minus and C level guys. Oh well, I'm hoping he does get Pavlik and gets KTFO for his troubles, maybe once he gets annihilatd the Aussie media can start paying attention to some real warriors!

Pavlik v Mundine wld be a big deal in Australia. Much bigger than any of Carl Froch's fights have ever been to the English

Im not quite sure what there is to read into, I expressed my disappointment that the rumours I've heard about Mundine being the only well known boxer to the Australian public are true. No alterior motifs here chief.

Mundine had a huge profile in football before he started boxing and his dad had 90 pro fights as well.

Mundine gets huge media coverage more than Vic, Bika, Rocky and Geale together....however most of the talk is in the hope he gets shut-up and KTFO.

True, most Aussies want to see him trip over because he's so bloody obnoxious, but it probably won't be a plus overall for boxing's profile in Oz.

Danny Green seems to have stolen the local limelight at least temporarilly, with his US bout in 3 weeks time and then the tantilizing prospect of Green vs RJJ in Oz.

The Mundine camp seem to be at an absolute impass as far as who to fight next!

Logically you'd think it would be the IBO mandatory against Geale followed by a genuine world class overseas fighter...but expect the usual disappointment.

This is very true and very sad! Vic is pretty much always entertaining and Katsidis has been in some first class wars yet they get precious little attention whilst Mundine gets all the attention with the **** he wheels out against joke opposition!
