Is Fury not in breach of the court ruling by not fighting before September? usually a court ruling is set in stone and if Fury cannot carry out the agreed ruling he would be stripped or financially penalised. if team Wilder and team Fury were not in cahoots all along it’s already documented the fight wasn’t selling anywhere near expectations. If I was Wilder I would be trying to get some Saudi money from the AJ fight. Strange if Wilder was so upset like he’s beem saying he would be lobbying to take the belt from Fury
There was no court ruling it was a mediation. And honestly I think the idea of a mediator ordering a fight is ridiculous and probably didn't happen. They reached an agreement, the fight wasn't selling well, it's either canceled or delayed until the colder weather comes. I'm more upset about losing that undercard at this point.
The contract would have a clause allowing for medical delays. All the arbritrator did was declare the contract to be enforceable.
I think there was a quote from Finkel saying the new date had been approved by the court but they'd yet to hear from Team Fury. Not certain though.
Up to this point I was mostly with you. This point though.... If you were Wilder you'd be an incurable coward who runs as fast as possible from AJ (and several others) - he doesn't want that fight, never has and never will. The only reason he even pretends otherwise is because there's no good excuse for not wanting that fight - it's high risk but also huge reward (and it's huge financial reward even if he loses, which he almost certainly would)... Usually he doesn't even hide it, doesn't pretend he wants it whilst doing everything to avoid it, he just pretends he's above it (and unfortunately some people buy it), but with AJ he's more careful to hide it. It depends... My theory is that Wilder cares strongly about how he's perceived - what he sees as his "legacy". That's not the same thing as his resume, he doesn't give a **** about that. The path he was on pre-Fury was to knock out second and third rate fighters without taking any losses and claim that he was being ducked by everyone else because he was "too dangerous"... And it was working - plenty of casuals and the easily deluded were drawn in to rating this guy as the #1 heavyweight despite the fact that he'd beaten basically nobodies. Then came the Fury mistake... A cherrypick gone badly wrong - he picked a far better fighter than he'd fought before, banking on their poor condition to make it easier than it should be and give his legacy a bigger name that would help reduce the accusations of fraud. And it nearly worked. Fury in the first fight absolutely schooled him... BUT, there was still plenty of space to look for that KO punch and Fury wasn't really threatening to knock him out in return, he damn near managed to land it too. He'd have been fairly confident that Fury was going to fight the same way in #2 and that meant the range he needs would still be achievable. It wasn't, as it happens, but it was entirely reasonable to think it would be. Now? He's stuck... He's desperate to avenge himself by beating Fury - this isn't about getting the belt back, that path to a lasting legacy (even if a fraudulent one) is long since gone, this is about avenging his loss and being able to claim he beat Fury twice (which he will if he wins, he'll say he was robbed in #1) and point to Fury's superior win over Wlad relative to AJ's to declare himself the king of the heavies without needing to get within a thousand miles of actually fighting Joshua. I wish it were different, but Wilder is basically as fraudulent as they come - he wants all the plaudits without having to truly earn them.
@BubblesUK What a bunch of fanboi nonsense. Fury always has been Wilder's most challenging matchup. I think he'd probably lose to Joshua, too, but he'd have a much better shot against a more stationary and predictable target like AJ. There are plenty of things to criticize Wilder for, but his opposition starting in 2018 has been excellent. I'd like there to be more variety, but 5x fights to be with Fury and Ortiz is strong. There's no rational reason to think Wilder is "afraid" of Joshua. Only irrational fanbois would think otherwise.
Fanboi? Jesus, I don't even like any of these three. Fighting what looked like a washed up Fury was a cherrypick, if that's not blatantly obvious then I'm not sure what could be... Having come close to knocking him out the first time, he understandably fancied his chances the second fight - he just reckoned without Fury reinventing himself and denying him the range he needs to wind up that big right hand. The third, IMHO, is ego taking over, he's desperate to have a chance to redeem himself even if he doesn't believe he's got much chance of doing it. Fighting Ortiz twice is absolutely not "excellent" opposition - Ortiz is a never-has-been. His resume is pretty hollow and paints a fighter who is basically gatekeeper level... That his reputation was grossly overinflated to make Wilder look better is something only a diehard Wilder fan (or is that "fanboi") would fail to recognise. I don't like Joshua as a character at all, but Wilder having ducked him says far more about Wilder than it does about Joshua.
Plus remember in 2017 when he was trying to fight Stiverne, but Showtime had gotten sick of his awful opposition and basically told him they weren't going to televise it so they were forced to make a fight with Ortiz in 2017, only for Ortiz to fail a drug test and so he ended up getting his way and fighting Stiverne as a replacement. And of course Ortiz failed for blood pressure medication, he clearly isn't physically in his prime and there was some doubt he'd pass the medical for the first fight. Ortiz as you would expect at his age and with cardiovascular issues faded in both fights with Wilder and hasn't faced anyone else in the whole time who was any good, so impossible to say how good he really was when Wilder fought him.
Fury should flee back to the UK to fight AJ The US aren't going to extradite him to fight Wilder Good luck getting your money bum squad.
I for one would much rather seen Fury / AJ. That said Wilder has seriously annoyed me with his latest antics and if Fury laid a beating on him again it would be worth it.
